We are facing an ecosystems crisis, which ultimately is a threat to the very existence on this planet. It is everybody’s duty to preserve and restore nature and biodiversity. And we urgently need policies that tackle these challenges! That’s why we joined a group of businesses calling for the EU Nature Restoration Law, the first European-wide law aiming to tackle the loss of our key ecosystems. Together with more European companies, we urge the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024 to ensure the final adoption of the law. “We, businesses, need the natural resources and ecosystem services that are now under threat from biodiversity loss and climate change. Failure to act will lead to costly disruptions across supply chains, lower productivity and higher operational costs. Nature restoration can ensure long-term sustainability for businesses and conserve the resources on which many of our economic activities depend,” reads our letter. It's alarming that 40% of Belgians aged 16 to 74 lack basic #digital skills. By 2030, up to 560,000 new jobs will require such skills. Signing on behalf of Accenture Belgium new commitments to address this issue through the DigitAll coalition: that's what I've done, alongside other organizations. Together with 64 CEOs and ambassadors, I endorse DigitAll’s Open Letter and call on future regional and federal governments to join us in this mission by acting on our three recommendations for a digitally inclusive #Belgium: 1) Develop a coordinated strategy. 2) Provide structural funding. 3) Work on an inclusive approach. How do you keep a city attractive, accessible and affordable? How do you stay committed to innovation in a downtown core that has a relatively poor population, whereas in many big cities it is just the other way around?

Fixed mobile convergence is great for telcos because the customer becomes stickier (less churn). But is it great for the consumer? Do people fall for the attractive initial bundle but then forget to price check the services individually as they come to the end of the contract? That is what Belgian regulator BIPT - IBPT seems to be saying in its latest analysis: consumer "should not hesitate to consider choosing different operators for their fixed and mobile needs". Digital sustainability: Digital accessibility is becoming increasingly important. From June 2025, most consumer products and services, including websites and online shops, will be required to comply with the European Accessibility Act.  Many are not yet compliant - accessibility is critical, not just for people with disabilities, but for everyone, including the older generation. Research shows that many consumers, disabled or not, regularly get stuck on inaccessible websites.  We participated in a Shopping Tomorrow expert group and produced a blue paper on this topic, which you can download here. Don’t forget your right brain! Have you ever thought about using drawing to build your vision? A few years ago, I had the opportunity to work with Simon Claes who has been a great help in my former role as Change Manager within the Fibre Program. As an Agile Coach, he guided us in defining the visions and missions of the different Squads. His method was both simple and playful: collectively create a drawing representing our vision and mission. Years later, I continue to practice this exercise, this time with my ‘Internal Communication’ team within the Network Business Unit. Why do I strongly encourage you to practice this exercise? 🤝To stimulate collaboration. Drawing together requires more communication and idea exchange. 🧐To clarify ideas. Sometimes, we hide behind beautiful phrases that may lack substance and meaning. A drawing is often clearer and more concrete. 👀To step out of your comfort zone. We are not all used to drawing. Breaking the routine can encourage you to push your vision further… to dare to dream! 🤡To have fun! We all need to laugh. Laughter is a powerful stimulant. When was the last time you laughed at work? Important step! Proximus Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (#MoU) with Wyre, Telenet and Fiberklaar to accelerate fiber deployment in Flanders and increase access to gigabit networks for 2.7 million homes in medium to low-density areas. In the most sparsely populated areas Proximus will service its customers from Wyre’s Hybrid Fiber-Coax (#HFC) network. 🌐 Why does this matter? ⚡Faster, broader connectivity to ultrafast internet for Flanders. 💰 Cost-efficient deployment, limiting public works. 🌍 Digital future for all, innovation and economic growth. In parallel, Proximus acquired 100% ownership of Fiberklaar. It is sad to see no reflection on the 695,070 EU citizens in Belgium, and 200,166 in Brussels, who will not be able to vote on 13 October. In Etterbeek, home to many officies of the European Commission, disenfranchised EU residents would make up 63% of the electoral roll. This repost in no way diminishes the great work of volunteers, whether through VoteBrussels or the EU staff trade union U4U. In our small town, Tervuren, we, too, took to the streets to urge people to register to vote. In Belgium and Brussels, some 85% of EU residents have been denied their right to vote in municipal elections, guaranteed by the EU Treaty. This troubling pattern is seen across Belgium, with 90% of EU citizens in Flanders and 75% in Wallonia being barred from voting. The democratic deficit extends right up to the German border, in Belgium's Raeren, where 68% of the electorate will be unable to vote in October. Ensuring the fundamental right to vote remains a core responsibility of the Belgian state. Unfortunately, Belgium had to be compelled by the ECJ in 1997 (C-323/97) to grant EU citizens their voting rights. It then chose for a complex registration system that effectively excludes the vast majority of potential EU and other voters. Volunteers alone will never be able to register 695,070 EU citizens and 205,481 other non-Belgians in Belgium.
