How are universities tackling the rapidly developing changes in AI across educational, research, and operational aspects? What support do universities and the wider R&I community need from EU institutions, and vice-versa? How can we best bring together industry, science, and policy to tackle Europe’s AI ambitions? 🔍 🔍 These are some of the questions our project Coordinator Brendan Rowan from BluSpecs addressed in the UnILiON Annual Event 2024 alongside Birgitta Bergvall-Kåreborn, Cecile Huet, Elena Baralis, and Vanesa Daza✅ Brendan joined a panel of experts to discuss how AI can be a force for good, exploring how universities are navigating the rapid developments in AI to tackle both local and global challenges💡 ➡️ AI touches us all – horizontally affecting sectors, with a distinction between AI developers (researchers) and AI users. ➡️ A parallel to cars: Just as you don’t need to know how to change a sparkplug to drive a reliable car, users can rely on specialists for complex AI needs, while accessible AI tools empower everyday tasks. ➡️ AI in industry is about scale and speed, underpinned by the trifecta of data, talent, and infrastructure. ➡️ Collaboration is key: To achieve the AI future we envision, EU Member States, universities, and companies must row together in unison. Let’s keep driving this conversation to ensure AI benefits society at every level! #AI #Innovation #UnILiON #EU #Education #AIRevolution #TechForGood BDVA - Big Data Value Association UnILiON - Universities Informal Liaison Offices Network

Did you know that for the second half of the past decade, over 40% of academic staff in Europe are over 50 years old? To prevent qualified educators from leaving for more lucrative positions in industry, it is crucial to offer attractive incentives✅ In an era of rapid technological advancement, it’s vital that trainers and educators from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Vocational Education and Training (VET) continually enhance their skills💪 How can we achieve this? ➡️Regular professional development programs such as workshops, seminars, and courses on cutting-edge digital technologies and innovative teaching methodologies. ➡️Offer competitive incentives that reward growth and innovation. ➡️Encourage institutions to create a more conducive and fulfilling work environment. A study done by Eurostat has revealed that 67% of ICT Specialists in the EU possess a higher education degree either from undergraduate, specialised Masters, or professional training programmes📚 🔍Currently, the proliferation of advanced technologies is transforming the production landscape, non-ICT profiles are equipped with ICT knowledge and skills now have the ability to produce new software and hardware. How can universities, SMEs, and policymakers support non-ict professionals acquire the necessary knowledge and skills? 🔹 The selected (of high demand) advanced digital should be reflected in the education and training courses offered in various disciplines, specifically in the non-ICT areas. 🔹 Universities and other training providers could offer to the public training courses and content to establish better their connections with the society, attract professionals in their short learning programmes and masters’ degrees. 🔹 SMEs could collaborate with training providers licensing their ICT tools to them, so as increase the awareness of the professionals and their engagement to them. 🔹 Increase the recognition of non-formal learning on advanced ICT areas and to identify ways to validate knowledge acquired and skills developed through informal learning. The progress in various ICT domains is rapid, making difficult to wait the establishment and updating of formal education degrees, programs and courses. These efforts could facilitate Europe to achieve the target of 20 million ICT specialists by the year 2030✅ 🔗 https://advancedskills.eu/ Follow us to see our impact across Europe! #LEADSx2030 #LEADS #AdvancedDigitalSkills #ADS BluSpecs Trinity College Dublin Headai Universidad Politécnica de Madrid EIT Digital DIGITALEUROPE European Commission European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA)
