About us
Founded in 1998, EGEC, the European Geothermal Energy Council is an international non-profit association located in Renewable Energy House in Brussels, in the heart of the European quarter. EGEC has 180 members from 30 European countries, including private companies, national associations, consultants, research centres, geological surveys, and public authorities. Our aim is to promote the use of geothermal energy. We do this by: • Working with European institutions. Developing a sound policy framework and beneficial financial instruments allows geothermal energy to complete with traditional sources and ensures that the environmental benefits are reflected in economic support for the sector. • Encouraging Research and Development and helping the public at large to access the results, enabling wider exploitation of geothermal resources. • Promoting the geothermal market in Europe as well as the export of European technology, services, and equipment to other parts of the world. • Representing the industries’ interests at all levels of policy making in order to improve business conditions. • Co-operating with national and international geothermal associations, and with any other associations promoting research on and application of renewable energy sources, joining forces to achieve successful development and implementation throughout Europe, and fostering European cooperation.

EGEC Geothermal celebrates a major milestone today as Europe’s Energy Ministers adopt Council Conclusions that include strong actions to accelerate the deployment of geothermal energy. 💬 Philippe Dumas, Secretary General of EGEC: "EGEC warmly welcomes the Council Conclusions agreed upon by Europe's Energy Ministers today. Now, it is up to the European Commission to deliver." These conclusions are a crucial step toward a sustainable, resilient, and cost-effective energy system, following calls from the European Parliament, the European Committee of the Regions, and the European Economic and Social Committee for a dedicated European Geothermal Action Plan. 💬 Sanjeev Kumar, EGEC Head of Policy: "The Geothermal Action Plan must facilitate investments in local jobs, growth, and reducing energy costs for families, offices, and industries." EGEC is ready to support the strategy’s implementation and build a robust alliance to drive geothermal forward. 👉 Read the EGEC full Press Release here: https://lnkd.in/eR8BkHue #GeothermalNOW #GeothermalEnergy #EnergyTransition

Today, the International Energy Agency (IEA) launched its special report on the Future of Geothermal Energy. Fatih Birol said that geothermal energy is a "secure and clean energy source" and that its "prospects are positive," but dedicated policy support is required to "turn these into reality". He's always right. The baton now moves to EU institutions. Geothermal cuts across so much of the EU's new madate: 1️⃣ Electrification Action Plan 2️⃣ Affordable Housing Action Plan, 3️⃣ Vision for Agriculture, 4️⃣ Clean and Affordable Energy Plan 5️⃣ Trans-Mediterranean Energy and Clean Tech cooperation initiative 6️⃣ European Climate Adaptation Plan 7️⃣ Clean Industrial Plan and the Accelerator 8️⃣ Industrial Competitiveness Fund and, last but not least, the 9️⃣ Geothermal Action Plan. There is a lot do to but the goal of geothermal electricity, heating, cooling, storage and lithium for everyone is so worthwhile. #GeothermalNOW #geothermal #energy #2040 #renewables Dan Jørgensen Mechthild Wörsdörfer Lukasz Kolinski Matthieu Ballu Wopke Hoekstra Kurt Vandenberghe EGEC Geothermal Sorcha Edwards Energy Cities Adrian Hiel Marina Mesure Niels Fuglsang Michal Wiezik Martin Hojsik Michael Bloss ECR Group in the European Parliament Nicolás González Casares Jens Geier
