EGEC Geothermal celebrates a major milestone today as Europe’s Energy Ministers adopt Council Conclusions that include strong actions to accelerate the deployment of geothermal energy. 💬 Philippe Dumas, Secretary General of EGEC: "EGEC warmly welcomes the Council Conclusions agreed upon by Europe's Energy Ministers today. Now, it is up to the European Commission to deliver." These conclusions are a crucial step toward a sustainable, resilient, and cost-effective energy system, following calls from the European Parliament, the European Committee of the Regions, and the European Economic and Social Committee for a dedicated European Geothermal Action Plan. 💬 Sanjeev Kumar, EGEC Head of Policy: "The Geothermal Action Plan must facilitate investments in local jobs, growth, and reducing energy costs for families, offices, and industries." Today, the International Energy Agency (IEA) launched its special report on the Future of Geothermal Energy. Fatih Birol said that geothermal energy is a "secure and clean energy source" and that its "prospects are positive," but dedicated policy support is required to "turn these into reality". He's always right. The baton now moves to EU institutions. Geothermal cuts across so much of the EU's new madate: 1️⃣ Electrification Action Plan 2️⃣ Affordable Housing Action Plan, 3️⃣ Vision for Agriculture, 4️⃣ Clean and Affordable Energy Plan 5️⃣ Trans-Mediterranean Energy and Clean Tech cooperation initiative 6️⃣ European Climate Adaptation Plan 7️⃣ Clean Industrial Plan and the Accelerator 8️⃣ Industrial Competitiveness Fund and, last but not least, the 9️⃣ Geothermal Action Plan.
