Our Australian SDR team has taken on a challenge to deepen their understanding of the Australian Construction Industry. This initiative was sparked by Hank's infectious enthusiasm after he attended the FCON24 event. Inspired, the team agreed they all wanted to learn more about the industry to engage better with the likes of Project, Procurement, Finance, Operations and Asset Managers at companies within the construction sector. We've agreed on a team challenge where each member will deep-dive into a specific topic and share their findings on LinkedIn. The rules are simple: ❌ No mention of TechOne ❌ No product features ❌ No calls to action for meetings It's quite unconventional for an outbound sales team—posting content without aiming for leads? Initially, they looked at me as if I had grown a second head. Great result by the Kiwi SaaS community In 2023 New Zealand’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) sector earned $3.6b in revenue. It has been growing revenue by a 15 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) since 2016, and at this rate it is on track to earn $9.7b by 2030.  By 2030 the report estimates that SaaS export-led added value will be growing faster and contributing more nominal GDP ($4.5b) than New Zealand’s top three primary sector industries (horticulture, dairy product manufacturing and meat product manufacturing).  Since 2016 SaaS exports have been growing at an inflation adjusted rate of 8.7 percent.  This is two and a half times higher than the inflation adjusted CAGR of 3.4 percent that New Zealand’s overall export economy has recorded in the past two decades.  Bruce Jarvis, Head of kiwiSaaS, says that the SaaS sector remains an ‘invisible giant.’  “How much the SaaS sector contributes to our economic wealth today, and could do in the future, is only just becoming visible,” says Jarvis.

Why is it that few question the extraordinary power use of data centres and big tech in all the talk of environmental sustainability? You won't get accurate figures as none are kept, but the CSIRO want us to believe that despite exponential growth, electricity use at data centres hasn't changed, sitting at 1% in the last decade. 😂😂 So try and explain why tech companies like Amazon recently purchased a nuclear-powered data centre for $US650 million ($988 million) right next to a power station. Sure, they want reliable power but they also know their power usage is high and is going to increase exponentially. Battery backup isn't going to cut it. According to the International Energy Agency, a Google search done with AI consumes 10 times the amount of electricity than a standard search. Unbelievably, a single bitcoin transaction costs the equivalent of power consumption of an average U.S. household over 20 days.😳 Yet hundreds of thousands of these transactions happen every day. A single ChatGPT question using the equivalent of 500ml of water. Still, they want us to believe that all these mobile phone towers, data centres, electric vehicles, AI and crypto computing is somehow only around 1% of total energy consumption. 😂 In Ireland, big tech energy usage is hitting 30%, according to SkyNews. Meanwhile, governments come after farmers with all sorts of green taxes. 🤷‍♀ You don't need to have a degree in Mathematics like I do, to know the numbers do not add up!! Nor does it make any environmental sense for us to continue to blindly expand IT use as we are.
