I'd like to give a shout out to a wonderful platform we've been using lately: Plausible Analytics. Now, I don't know what Google was thinking when it sunsetted its beloved Universal Analytics product in favour of GA4. But whatever the case, GA4 is clunky, lacks the thrill of seeing how the day is going so far due to data upload lags, and frankly is not intuitive for non-marketers. That's not an exhaustive list of gripes, just a selection. Since using Plausible we have enjoyed: 🙋‍♀️🙋🏾‍♂️ Fewer requests to our CRO to dig up data and insights. It's now easier to find those quickly and confidently. This is a big opportunity cost saving. 🚀 Watertight reporting, packed with insights. 💡Better and quicker decision-making on our roadmap. Plausible isn't perfect. But it's hands down better than GA4. p.s. This is not a sponsored post!

I know it is a big ask when you throw in stakeholder management, strategy, team leadership... The list goes on. PMax is great and all but don’t let it do ALL the heavy lifting if you plan to truly maximise profit from Google Ads. PMax can be seen as a discovery campaign. Use it to discover new things that work. Once discovered, those new things should be implemented into manual campaigns where you improve the ROI through more strategic management of things like targeting and creative. If you’re a busy biz owner running your own ads, I forgive you for only using PMax if that’s what you are doing. But if you’ve hired an agency or person and THEY are only doing PMax despite them being a full time Gads pro, this warrants some concern.

The more I watch these wonderful Christmas ads the more I’m reminded that they're performance campaigns, not brand.   The ads are designed to reach in-market shoppers across a 5-week window in order to deliver short term sales. That’s the textbook definition of ‘performance’.     I don't say this as an insult, I say it as a compliment. It shows that performance marketing can use emotion and storytelling just as much as brand. That it’s possible to do both, at once.   Which begs the questions, do we really need to keep separating band and performance - or are these definitions just getting in the way of good integrated marketing?

Marketing teams need to realise that owning just one channel or one marketing tactic isn't a disadvantage - It's a superpower. Being the best at a little can be a scary strategy, but done well it delivers results faster and is far easier to scale and automate. Just don’t forget to fine tune and evolve. People will copy you, and that’s good. Just stay ahead and people’s cheap imitations will simply elevate you more. Never spread yourself too wide and become average at a lot. You’ll never be copied or even worse. You’ll never be noticed.

SEO appears to be a hot topic in recruiting circles at the moment‍️. Not surprising as many people believe it is a route to ‘easy’ lead generation. Lead generation eventually yes…………..though easy isn’t a word I would use with the word SEO; especially in the recruitment sector. The challenge is it takes time and money.
