Food and beverage represents about 20% of Australia’s manufacturing and yet more than 95% of the nation’s F&B business are small- and medium-sized enterprises. Collectively SMEs are strong – clusters are often integral to the success of small F&B business. Australia's Food and Beverage Accelerator (FaBA) was delighted to welcome Nicole McNaughton (Food Agribusiness Network (FAN)), Kym Cooper (East Forged) and Jacqueline Wilson-Smith (FaBA Industry Steering Committee) to share their experiences on fostering SMEs through clusters. “Together a rising tide floats all boats. As groups, we share pain points and insights. Clusters want to create sustainable sources of funding and the profile of what we can do together - it’s quite powerful,” Nicole McNaughton said. The panel discussed the benefits of clusters, as well as working together to access MakerSpaces and other research facilities. “We want to accelerate our R&D projects and FaBA is helping us to do that faster and more efficiently.
