The Key to Sustained Success: Lessons from the New England Patriots When you think of sports dynasties, the New England Patriots are one that come straight to mind. Six Super Bowl wins under Belichick and Brady didn’t happen by accident—it was the result of a high-performing team built on discipline, adaptability, and alignment. Belichick’s mantra, “Do your job,” became an ingrained philosophy. Every player on the field knew their role, trusted their teammates to perform, and worked within a system designed for collective success. It’s no coincidence that this mindset led to one of the most successful runs in NFL history. In business, high-performing teams thrive on the same principles. They’re not about individual heroics (although it certainly helps if your top biller is consistently doing north of £2m each year!) but it's about consistency, shared goals, and trusting in the process. Leaders play a key role in this—ensuring alignment, empowering individuals to focus on their strengths, and creating a culture of accountability. One of my favourite takeaways from the Patriots is this: sustained success comes not from doing extraordinary things occasionally, but from doing ordinary things exceptionally well, consistently. It rings true for any business, but particularly at La Fosse. So if you've not had the year you would've wanted, or you're getting ready to go again next year and hit a new PB, clear the deck, and focus on the basics, and doing these consistently. #HighPerformingTeams #Leadership #NewEnglandPatriots #DoYourJob #Teamwork

We’ve had quite a few people come and go in our 3.5 years of being open, but TJ has been one of our leaders from day one. I think if you asked him he’d tell you the title “leader” may have been a bit of a stretch at the time, just as I would say the same for myself at that point. However, TJ always had the most important characteristic of becoming a great leader, the desire to relentlessly improve, and because of that mindset, we connected. Today is TJ’s last day with us as he pursues his dream of moving to NC and eventually opening his own coffee shop. I had to get a pic of us with the leadership book that I introduced to him and was the real catalyst for change not just for his leadership but mine as well. I’m very proud of him and his efforts to adopt the Extreme Ownership mentality, where success and failure equally lie with the decisions you make as a leader, and for that reason I know he is destined to accomplish great things in the next chapter of his journey. While I’m sad to see him go and had to fight back some tears, I had to thank him for giving me the confidence I could one day meet my goal of becoming an Operator and to help more grow; because without my experience and time working with him, I’m not sure I could confidently say that like I can today.
