Go Gold Medal Life I woke up this morning to Australia achieving another 4 gold medals. The Australian Olympic team performance is amazing. The focus, practice, perseverance, manifestation of the all the athletes is inspiring. There is a lot we can learn and adapt from high performing athletes. Which makes me think, what are the ingredients for a Gold Medal life? Here are 8 of my ingredients: 1.       Play to your Strengths – focus on your unique talents and amplify, practice, improve and grow. 2.       Support Team – Coaches, Mentors, Family/Friends – be surrounded by people who help you grow and be your best and are truly supportive and happy for your successes. 3.       Conscious Mindset – Visualise your achievements as if they have happened and have a strong inner advocate within yourself to continually believe and achieve. 4.       Calm Autonomic Nervous System – Practice meditation techniques to be fully centred and your highest calm self. When you are calm you have unlimited creativity and energy to achieve your best. 5.       Accept Rocks in the Road – Hardships, traumas, the lows in our life happen to us all. Rather than being defined by them, accept them, acknowledge them and integrate the learning and gold within them to make you a stronger and more evolved being. 6.       Strategic Perspective – Understand the environment you are living in. I used to say jump up into the helicopter and review your life from that perspective. I think now we need to fly up into a satellite and take a much more strategic and wholistic perspective. As we know from chaos theory and this Chinese proverb –‘the flapping of the wings of a butterfly can be felt on the other side of the world’  We are not independent islands we are connected souls. Look up and around. 7.       Power v Force– I overused intensity, I pushed and forced things to happen. David R Hawkins describes the difference between Power and Force. Power comes from within and is based on principles of integrity, compassion and courage, while force is external and relies on fear, coercions and manipulation. I am not sure this applies to all competitive environments…but life isn’t a competition, right? I think we are at a turning point in history where we are tired of the fear, manipulation and coercion. Bring on the integrity, compassion and courage. 8.       Passion – Have fire in your belly to live fully, savour life, live on the edge of your comfort zone and fulfill your potential. Got a new job leading a sporting organization? Want to make a difference and be successful? Here's five tips: 1. Listen to everyone - respect everyone's views - but in the end, make the decisions you believe are in the best interest of all participants, irrespective of politics and the "that's the way we do it here" people. 2. Build a team around you who are great at their job - then provide them with the support, the environment and the opportunity to do what they do best, i.e. don't hire a gourmet chef then make them wait tables all night. 3. Hire a mix of expertise, i.e. some people who know your sport, some people who know sport but from other sports (ideally from a more advanced sport) - and some with broader skills from outside of #sport. 4. Show me the money! Secure your long term financial viability so you can lock in plans and programs for the forseeable future. 5. Is your sports club looking into the future? A key factor that sports clubs need to consider when strategic planning is the future trends of the county and how these will impact on how we cater for our players, coaches, administrators and every other connected stakeholder. Population projections in New Zealand predict we may reach 6 million people in the next decade or two. Add to this the regional migration trends of residents moving out of the main centres and we could have a very different looking sports system in years to come. Football Coaches Australia As the trial period is current, it is important to understand and recognise the value of good coaching At NPL we often get lost in the fantasy of ‘club’ but what is ( or should be ) more attractive is understanding their coaching staff, their football philosophy but more importantly what the club believes good coaching looks like. In some clubs the “canteen crew” can win trophies with some teams as coaching actually has little impact on the result - some players and teams are just “better” Parents of aspiring players should look at the evidence of performance not only on the league table but to see what kind of humans are being developed by the coaches therein. Some Clubs will spit you kid out at 18 when the only focus in senior football will be three points on the weekend. Coaches, good coaches have the ability to influence young peoples lives, well away from the pitch - and forever . Teaching football through instruction but mentoring and supporting players when they fail - and they will Sometimes this means hard conversations and actions. Great coaches take a longer view ( I see Ange ripped his best player off last night at 1/2 time against West Ham ) and look at how that action will ultimately assist and progress the player and the individual I am lost at why EVERY coach in Australia is not a member of Football Coaches Australia and why they think their licence course alone is the panacea to developing the very skills that should underpin their work on the pitch It is so much more than session plans guys As football and life are the same game - just played on different pitches Join today - (because you all think you are so busy I have attached the link)

NRL clubs lean into all the commercial keywords such as Sale, Ticket, Prize & Gift more than their AFL peers with the exception of one…..”Vote”. While it’s pretty much a dead-heat when it comes to usage of Voucher & Giveaway. Does this suggest that NRL clubs are more commercially oriented? Do they place a greater emphasis on using social media for commercial activations? Is something else going on? PS.
