Data and trends are telling us there are shifts happening in the way we deliver, engage and experience sport in Australia. The sport we knew, particularly pre-COVID is vastly different to where we are now and where we're going. Getting ahead of the curve is the best way to embrace these changes, Kieren Perkins OAM has articulated this beautifully in the piece below. We need sport. How we connect with sport is up to us, and its time for all sports to get in the boat and row.👏 #australiansport #sportforall #femaleparticipation #futureofsport
I was only just discussing this with a friend over the weekend! When I worked in golf, walking and cycling were our direct competition because one can do it at all times, and individually as opposed to set times in a group like teeing off for a golf competition, or a netball match for example. Club sport brings more to a person’s life than simply exercise, it’s a sense of belonging. I’ve made life long friends playing competitive club netball.
Absolutely agree with the need to adapt and innovate in the evolving landscape of sports. Embracing technology, fostering inclusivity, and creating flexible participation models will be key drivers in shaping the future of sport in Australia. It's also crucial to invest in grassroots programs to nurture talent and build a strong foundation for the next generation.

5dInteresting read Spence! There’s a significant challenge around broader community participation and the changing way people are now engaging with their community and building social connection and local ties! Sport has a golden opportunity in creating the space or the containers for people who are seeking ways to find a sense of belonging and community but we need some creative reimagining of what those formal structures and ways of contributing looks like.
