Retailers : Black Friday Success? As always, having an in-depth review by #WayneRigney at #TheRetailScore about what is going on in the world of retail is essential. During these peak trading periods, where every dollar is important to retailers, making up for the tough year to date, understanding industry trends put you in a better position to make decisions that build growth, efficiencies, customer loyalty and getting them to add more items to their baskets, whether in-store or online. I have an amazing job that allows me to get out and meet exceptional people. Last week, I and the #orangejacket had the pleasure of getting out in Melbourne and meeting Nicola Steele, CEO of Krispy Kreme Australia & New Zealand. I had arrived a few minutes early at Collins Street Krispy Kreme and was sitting in a booth when Nicola entered. There was no fan fair or panic in the store. Nicola was greeted as customers before her were, with a smile and a wave, And that is the way I believe she likes it. Nicola started her career with Krispy Kreme as a summer job in 2006 while studying at Uni. It did not take long before progressing to Store Manager of the very store we were sitting in. Moving quickly from Store Manager to Area Manager of Melbourne CBD. With a couple of years off for study break, Nicola rejoined the group in 2011 as Victorian Operations Manager and part of the ANZ leadership team, this was quickly followed by Retail Operations Manager. 2014 National Operations Manager, 2015 Head of Retail & Development. 2019 Retail Director, 2022 Chief Operating Officer then in September 2023 Chief Executive Officer of Krispy Kreme Australia and New Zealand. 17 years from Crew Member and a summer job to CEO. Touching every aspect of the business along the way means Nicola appreciates and understands the impact of decisions made at leadership level on the people and teams that make it happen. Nicola is passionate about Krispy Kreme the brand, although it is the customers and staff that are her main focus, with a continued commitment to sharing Joy! From a handful of stores in 2006, to 43 stores in Australia, 5 in New Zealand, available in hundreds of 7-Elevens, 350 Woolworths and just recently 55 Coles across Australia. Complex Businesses, CRMs and the People Factor Off the Shelf CRMs Not the Solution for Complex Businesses OR NDIS Provider and its Complex Ecosystem Standard CRM Systems don’t cut it for knotty businesses. This is especially so for operationally complex businesses. For example, one of our clients is an NDIS provider. They don't fit the standard CRM bucket. Our clients have to deal with: Volunteers Trainers Participants/patients/clients Emergency contact points Financial people Family members. Pets Room availability Trainer availability First aid people co-ordination Volunteer management Message people And that’s just for starters. Believe me, there is a lot more than that. All of it had to be tracked so that accurate reports could be created. To maintain funding, quarterly reports were mandatory. Until we came to the rescue, they did all their reports manually. They realised that continuing with a labour-intensive reporting system was untenable. So, we developed a customer system perfectly aligned with their complex requirements. Once done, things were a lot easier: Instead of their team taking five days to create one of the monthly reports manually, we transformed it into two clicks to refresh the screen. This completely removed the need to install a high-end accounting system. So, to equip grants, they needed to have some of their team do five days of manual report creation for this one particular board room report they needed every month.
