Metals Australia Ltd has released its Quarterly Activities Report for the quarter ended 31 March 2024.   Highlights include: ◾ Commencement of highly experienced Mining Executive, Paul Ferguson, as Chief Executive Officer. This has enabled the Company to significantly advance planning and preparation for the exploration, metallurgical test work programs and design studies required to move its flagship Lac Rainy high-grade #graphite project towards development. ◾ The company hosted an investor booth at Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). The convention was hugely successful with significant contacts and connections established, who have expressed their interest in our project. Connections include government representatives, fund managers, investors and a wide range of technical services and engineering companies covering all aspects of the study programs required to advance the companies projects. This helped raise the profile of the Lac Rainy project, along with our other Quebec based projects. Follow up meetings with the government and supportive, Quebec based, exploration and project investment funds has further enhanced our profile in Canada. ◾ The Company held strategic planning workshops in Australia and Canada to review the extensive portfolio of high-quality exploration tenements held by the group. Strategic plans and priorities were developed for each project and plans are advancing to progress further exploration and metallurgical test programs. The Company is also investigating additional exploration or project opportunities where they add scale or accelerated pathways to development. British mining giant Anglo American is expected to appoint an investment bank any day for a sale of its $US5bn ($7.5bn) portfolio of Australian coalmining assets, according to sources in the market. The sale, which comes after an announced company break-up while it has been fending off advances from BHP, will involve big dollars for what are some of the best metallurgical coal mines in the world. That may limit the field somewhat. Delta Dunia Group, Through BUMA International, Agrees to Acquire a Controlling Interest in the Dawson Coal Mining Complex Delta Dunia Group, via its indirect subsidiary BUMA International [1], will expand its presence in the Bowen Basin in Queensland, through a US$455 [2] million proposed acquisition of a 51% interest in the Dawson Complex, one of Australia’s largest metallurgical coal mines. The proposed acquisition further delivers on the Group’s multi-year strategic plan to diversify into a leading coal services provider and producer, leveraging its industry-leading capabilities. The Dawson Complex has a production capacity of >8 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) with established infrastructure and well-known products which receive strong demand from key steelmaking markets in Asia. The mine has Reserves to support a mine life of over 20 years, and a Resource life to support a mine life of over 50 years. The proposed acquisition advances the Group’s strategy to diversify its portfolio and reduce its overall dependence on thermal coal. Spodumene Update November 2024           The spodumene sector is navigating an intriguing period, with potential for price rises and strategic shifts that may position Australia as a major beneficiary. As lithium demand increases globally, particularly due to the electric vehicle (EV) market's rapid growth, spodumene a hard-rock lithium source often refined to produce lithium hydroxide is becoming more crucial.  Green Shoots and Market Sentiment Recent trends on the RK Equity Lithium Scoreboard, which monitors lithium-related equities, hint at a recovery in lithium prices. With two months of consistent gains, the scoreboard suggests a potential near-term uptick in spodumene and lithium chemical prices, as lithium market fundamentals strengthen. With a forecast demand surge, major players in the industry speculate that prices might reach $30,000 to $40,000 per tonne by 2026, driven by outlier estimates of a 4.3 million-tonne lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) demand by 2030. This optimism stems from a combination of soaring EV demand, tightening supply constraints, and strategic investments. Australia’s Role as a Key Player Australia is currently the world’s largest producer of spodumene concentrate, with extensive reserves in Western Australia. As the lithium industry expands and valuations of lithium assets remain relatively low, Australia is positioned to be a central supplier to the world’s lithium needs, especially as countries like the United States and Europe seek to build more resilient, local EV supply chains. The company’s major project is the Storm copper play on Somerset Island in Nunavut, Canada, which has a resource of 17.5Mt at 1.2% copper and 3.4g/t silver and is currently being progressed through exploration and from there to development. #AW1 has now embarked on its largest exploration season yet with more rigs, more electromagnetics and geophysics mapped out to build the existing resource and look for new copper deposits in the Storm area an beyond. This is expected to deliver regular news flow from the exploration though O’Neill adds that the company is also doing a lot of environmental work, which will help with permitting for the project. Already, the ongoing moving loop electromagnetic survey being carried out as part of this season has already identified a growing collection of conductive anomalies, some of which are adjacent to known copper deposits and mineralisation. “We are also doing a lot of study work, mine study, metallurgical study, that’s very advanced and going very well and also doing a lot of planning for next year as well,” he told Stockhead.
