Is your data ready to ensure the success of the implementation of your new system? As high as 70-80% of system implementations fail, and of this, it has been cited that as high as 30% of the data in the system once launched is incorrect. In the countless system implementations I have been part of, I always start with “how confident are you on the quality of the data going into the new system, and what is your data preparation plan?”. We are currently working with a client who is moving from outsourcing to insourcing various assets, and is looking for a system to manage the assets once insourced. The challenge they have is the data going into the system is manually constructed in Excel, and lacks governance to ensure it is correct, accurate and timely. If not addressed, this lack of data quality issues will hinder the system implementation, provide inaccurate reports and may also put the insourcing strategy at risk. Prior to any new system implementation, it is critical you ensure your data is secure and fit-for-purpose, and to ensure your processes are documented and optimised. Only then, will you be able to truly realise the envisioned ROI. In addition to data quality, it is also critical businesses understand what data is being captured, where the data is being held and how it is stored to ensure they are meeting regulatory requirements. Several clients of a small envirotech company based in Melbourne had requested significant upgrades to the technology. But without a budget to hire software developers, the CTO turned to GitHub's Copilot to assist with coding. The productivity of the tech team is now 30-40% higher using GenAI, with better quality output, and happy clients. For a while, the senior leadership team wasn't aware GenAI was being used. Fortunately, it all turned out well but might not have been such a happy ending. Having a company policy in place for using GenAI at work is essential. More than just protocols, a policy should convey values and principles, how it aligns to strategic objectives...and signals leadership buy-in. More broadly, I expect this will be the initial impact of AI on jobs - hiring freezes.

We have recently published the latest #DigitalStrategy Roadmap for the WA Government. The roadmap outlines the vision and highlights over 70 projects currently underway. The conversation about generative AI is one we all should all lead, where possible, within our respective communities, be they personal or professional. 🤖 ... 💫 ROAM 💫 Change practitioners – Agile or otherwise – are risk managers. By action if not by job title. Risk Management isn’t in the Agile mainstream and when attempted formally in traditional project management falls somewhere between lip service and bureaucracy. Let’s make Risk Management in Change fun – with ROAM and Visual Agile Coaching. 👉 What is it? ROAM is an acronym for Resolve, Own, Accept, and Mitigate – a menu for Risk Management. ➡ Resolved Risks: No threat (at this time) = no issue, no further action is required. ➡ Owned Risks: “I’ve got this!” = I’m the best owner for the risk (and I will resolve, accept mitigate accordingly) ➡ Accepted Risks: There’s no way out of this fix - we’ve got to live with it, work with it and not get caught out buy it (NB. This isn’t an easy way out!) ➡ Mitigated Risks: “We’ve got a plan” to eliminate the threat of the risk (or we will 👉 When to use it? Agile: Continuously. Use ROAM to identify actions for the backlog. Traditional Project Management: Before (identify risk for a project to solve), During (the risks an in-flight project creates), at Implementation (new risk the project introduces into the business). Benefits of ROAMing: Works for individuals, teams or even at the train or programme level. Encourages collaboration and discussion about Risk Management – within a clear, systematic framework. Accountability is hard wired – there’s no “we’ll just ignore this risk” option.Is simple an easy to understand and works in both Agile and Traditional Project Management. 👉 Try: Create a ROAM Board – it works like a Kanban Board to get risks out in the open – visualise the risks with images and depictions of what could go wrong…On that point…what could possibly go wrong? Brainstorm the outcomes if a risk isn’t resolved or mitigated to help with prioritisation. Incorporate ROAM with another 4-Box Model – the Eisenhower Matric – to help identify the urgent and important Risk Management activities.
