The conversation about generative AI is one we all should all lead, where possible, within our respective communities, be they personal or professional. 🤖 ... And, because I like to practise what I preach, I was delighted to be a guest on Radio Adelaide's "Inner View" program earlier this week because it gave me a chance to do just that! 🙌 Hosted by the lovely Ellie, this is a program designed to cover a broad range of topics relating to education. During our time together, we had a chance to discuss the #genAI space, what it means for each of us as learners, and what it might mean for those with whom we work, whether these are colleagues, other educators or students (or communities of all three!). 🙌 We also covered: 👉 How to utilise free-to-access AI, such as ChatGPT, Copilot and more 👉 How to be mindful of data security and privacy (while still getting the most out of the experience!) 👉 Some hot tips for how to get the outputs you need more quickly 👉 Some examples of how this tech might be harnessed for community good (hello, social housing solutions and GPTs to support #womenshealth) 👉 The importance of having great educators and communicators as we navigate this time of change. I am very chuffed whenever I have the opportunity to both contribute to our community *and* to help others to find new capabilities and potential in tech... ...This is exactly what I am here to do! 🌎 If you'd also like to have a listen, you can do this by going to 👇👇👇 https://lnkd.in/gfdWwyWB Please also consider finding Ellie's 'Inner View' page on Facebook and giving it some love, too 💗 . . . #community #communityradio #education #learninganddevelopment #futureofwork #traininganddevelopment #professionaldevelopment #technology

As I've spoken to a number of people about lately, I love Lee Schofield's approach to building AI literacy with a particular focus on "professional women with non-tech backgrounds" (ie. me!). If you want to explore and play with generative AI tools in an approachable way, and get a bit of an overview of the GenAI landscape, check out this workshop (on tonight)!
Just a quick reminder that tomorrow we are re-running our Beyond ChatGPT workshop, followed by two Prompting Playground sessions on Thursday and Friday. We are focused on building AI literacy for professional women with non-tech backgrounds. So if you haven't had a chance to join one of our workshops yet and want to explore and play with generative AI tools in a safe and responsible way, and get a bit of an overview of the GenAI landscape, please do come a long! The IMF has identified that professional women in developed economies are some of the highest risk to AI - so we are very passionate about building AI literacy skills. We are inclusive though, so everyone is welcome if they interested to check it out :) Read more about our sessions here: https://lnkd.in/dxTa7M28 Co-facilitated by Simone Blakers, Future For Now #generativeAI #AIliteracy #training #upskilling #education

"GenAI’s role aligns with #Vygotsky’s sociocultural theory of learning, where more knowledgeable others guide learners within their Zone of Proximal Development. By integrating novel technologies like #ChatGPT into #intelligenttutoringsystems, #GenAI can offer personalised and adaptive support based on each learner’s unique knowledge" #ZPD #ailiteracy #ailearning #ai for #feedback #assessment #aiethics #ethicalissues
We are thrilled to share our latest paper, "𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨," published in 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿! Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has a potential to transform how we learn. The paper explores how GenAI tools, like ChatGPT, can enhance human learning by offering support for personalized, adaptive learning at scale. These tools can act as effective tutors, guiding learners in real-time, providing feedback, and creating diverse learning materials, such as text, audio, and video. GenAI can make learning more accessible and engaging, offering customized support to human learners. However, the paper also highlights several concerns. AI-generated content can sometimes be inaccurate and include hallucinations, which may confuse learners or create a false sense of improvement. That is, all this can lead human learners into what I call “lazy metacognition”. Ethical issues like privacy, transparency, and fairness must also be addressed to prevent widening educational inequalities and perpetuate digital divides. Additionally, over-reliance on AI might hamper students’ ability to develop critical thinking and creativity. To fully harness the potential of GenAI, the paper stresses the need for AI literacy and adaptive skills among educators and learners. Understanding both the capabilities and limitations of these technologies is crucial. More research is necessary to assess GenAI's long-term effects on learning outcomes and ensure it complements, rather than replaces, human creativity and intellectual growth. This paper is largely based on a series of talks I’ve given over the past 18 months. Many thanks to my brilliant co-authors — Lixiang (Jimmie) Yan, Samuel Greiff, and Ziwen Teuber — for their collaboration in transforming these ideas into a well-rounded paper. What do you do with your Friday evening when your children are at Sea Cadets? I am finishing a presentation for next week, where I have the opportunity to speak to headteachers about the transformative power of AI in education. We'll explore both the thrilling potential and the ethical considerations, delving into the ease of voice cloning with groundbreaking tools like ElevenLabs (thank you Dr. Nigel Matthias for this suggestion ), and the creation of digital agents from just a photo using platforms like D-ID. Alongside this, we will look at a range of practical applications to ease workload, save time and get creative. This talk isn't just about what AI can do; it's about starting a conversation on how we navigate this new frontier responsibly. From personalised learning experiences to data analysis, and policy writing to illustrating children's stories. But with great power comes great responsibility. I have been experimenting with using a video intro. The script was written by ChatGPT, brought to life with Elevenlabs' voice cloning, and then animated using D-ID. A perfect example of how these tools can come together to create something special/scary/interesting [choose your own answer]. AI is already a practical tool that is changing the way we work, I am excited to see how it can shape the future of education in ways we've only just begun to imagine. If you have any suggestions for my presentation, please do add them as comments. Have a great weekend. #AIinEducation #DigitalTransformation #FutureOfLearning #EdTech

📈 Our AI-powered bot just got more brilliant and more nuanced than ever! It adaptively tailors its communication style to best suit where and how your current or prospective students engage. In the video below, we pose the same question to the same bot on two different platforms: live chat and WhatsApp. The results speak for themselves—on WhatsApp, the bot's answer is snappy and to the point, while it's more expansive and detail-oriented on live chat! I love things like this: super thoughtful improvements to student engagement experience, ensuring every interaction for our clients is as helpful and relevant as possible, no matter where it occurs. 📅 Keen to start with AI but worried about p(doom), hallucinations, or data privacy? 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜: 𝗔 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹. I was thinking: Advanced tech tools like AI should be within arm's reach of everyone, not just a select few. However, we often make an assumption of accessibility, presuming that everyone has equal access to these powerful tools. This is far from reality. The reality is that access to AI tools is predominantly in the hands of those who can afford them and those who possess the technical skills required to use them. Let's take for instance, AI programming. The average person is largely unfamiliar with this field, resulting in a restriction of such advanced tools to those with extensive technical knowledge. Similarly, high costs often make these tools inaccessible to those with smaller budgets. In today's digital environment, where skills are a new currency, herculean efforts are required to push for greater inclusivity and bridge this digital divide. We must provide affordable solutions and create intuitive, user-friendly interfaces that enable a wider audience to leverage these tools. If we aspire to foster an environment of innovation and equal opportunity, then AI must be democratized. We need to shift from exclusive accessibility to universal inclusivity. I'm interested to know your thoughts. How can we make advanced tech tools like AI more accessible to everyone? Let's catalyze this conversation. #AIResponsibility #TechEthics #ReliableAI #AISafety #DigitalTrust

AI transformation since the Foundation for Armenian Science and Technology (FAST) launch in 2017 isn't just a story of technological evolution. It's a stark reminder of how quickly technology can shift from a concept to a defining force in our world. At Armenia's first AI conference in 2017 organized by our Foundation, local media translated "Machine Learning" as "Automotive Industry Learning." That translation error perfectly captured our situation: a world where AI concepts were so foreign that even basic terminology created confusion. The shift has been seismic: From 17% of enterprises using or exploring AI in 2017 to over 80% in early 2024. AI has grown from a specialized field discussed in academic corridors into a $200B+ industry, powering everything from email suggestions to medical diagnostics. "AI" in 2017 pitch meetings was met with raised eyebrows and skepticism. Half the time was invested in explaining why it wasn't just another tech buzzword. Now, the same technology drives fundamental changes in how millions work, create, and solve problems. ChatGPT reaching 100M users in just 2 months wasn't just a milestone – it marked a cultural turning point in how we interact with AI. At FAST, we’ve worked steadily over the years to ensure Armenia is equipped for this AI-driven future, helping to prepare an entire generation of scientists, engineers, and leaders for the challenges and opportunities ahead. This journey from buzzword to backbone isn't about being right. It's about the speed of paradigm shifts and the importance of conviction. The next phase is clear: focus on education, building not just AI systems but a deep, widespread understanding of what this technology means for our future. #AI #Innovation #TechEvolution #Entrepreneurship #AITechnology #Education

*𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗜: 𝗔 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵* Back in the late 1970s, as a teenager diving into computers, I witnessed a world unaware of the technological revolution ahead. Computers, once the domain of large corporations and government institutions, were massive and less powerful than today's smartphones. The 1980s brought the personal computer, transforming businesses and daily life. I started my own small business, building PCs, writing software, and training clients. Watching people's initial reluctance turn into appreciation was incredibly rewarding. The 2000s saw the rise of the internet, connecting billions of devices and integrating into every aspect of our lives. This powerful network revolutionized business and everyday activities, although adoption took time, as change often meets resistance. Now, with the advent of generative AI, like OpenAI's ChatGPT, we're on the brink of another significant leap. The capabilities of these systems are mind-blowing, yet they remain tools meant to assist and liberate us. It's crucial to understand their limitations and use them wisely. The impact of generative AI will be profound, reshaping business, personal lives, and societies. As Eric Hoffer said, “In times of change, learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.” What are your thoughts on this transformative journey? Share your take! #ArtificialIntelligence #GenerativeAI #OpenAI #ChatGPT #TechRevolution #PersonalComputers #InternetRevolution #BusinessTransformation #DigitalTransformation #Innovation #FutureTech #DigitalEra #AIimpact #TechAdoption #ChangeManagement #EricHoffer #LearningInChange #TransformativeJourney
