Instantly, you've got this real-time asset ready to rock the #metaverse. You can tweak and upgrade it whenever you want, and easily hook it up with all sorts of stuff like IoT sensors and client CRMs using APIs. Let's take it easy now....😄 Disclaimer ☝️: This process does not work straight, there is still intelligence lost within, but in my view, this is the future for designers, urban planners and architecture. How did BIMcontent.com come to be? ➡ In 2020, frustrated with other online BIM content websites / manufacturer content, several of #Australia’s leading #Architecture firms asked IGS Group (IGS BIM Solutions) if we could build a BIM Content repository / platform of manufacturer-based libraries for them that: 1. had strict BIM / #Revit content #quality protocols (no exceptions!) 2. was TRULY #free to use and protected their #privacy (e.g. their personal details were not shared with 3rd parties every time a file was downloaded) 3. had an #Australian focus (locally developed, local brands) 4. allowed them to have input into ongoing platform development 5. …and, helped reduce the use of other BIM content websites like #RevitCity and others that are notorious for poor quality, inconsistently created and outdated #BIMobjects. Since launching BIMcontent.com just 3 short years ago, Tier 1 Architecture practices and small design / building companies alike #globally are utilising the platform at exponentially increasing rates, now made easier with the Revit Plug-in we recently launched, so it can easily be deployed across entire design teams. Is it the end of other sites like Revit City, which doesn’t seem to have been updated since 2014? Probably not… but we’re getting feedback from BIM Admins that fewer designers are falling back onto Internationally developed / Sub-optimal BIM content platforms with the content available on BIMcontent.com growing so rapidly…. Revit 2025 comes with a new text/tag alignment tool. "Does it fix the leader lines so they’re consistent?" asked a notable BIM Manager who follows us on Twitter. "No", someone answered... "So we still need to use reference lines and manually align them. Darn...", they replied... Well... not at all: you can just use Bird Tools - Tag Alignment Tool, which has been available for 6 years, and it will do that for you within 3 seconds, and more. BIM data can help STAKEHOLDERS and MANAGERS to understand the progress of a Virtual Design Project as it progresses. WHAT could improve IT? STANDARD fields, supplementary fields and unique fields A (SCP) Social Capitalist Plan recognizes one size doesn't fit all, like Large-MEDIAN-small or ABC, xYz, 123.... so can META data that includes ESTIMATED COST, BUDGET COST, FINAL COST help turn every BIM object or component of objects in to a PACKAGE of COSTS that are reflected in SPECS? > Turning an initial BUDGET per SF > into a Budget of Programming Components > then a Budget of PARTS and associated INSTALLATION COSTS > Budget of OPERATION Inorder to automate each phase or LOD (Level of Development) with an ESTIMATED LOC (Level of Cost)? Which could be updated as the BID & construction is completed to inform the default average next time around.

Donald MASON and I submitted a paper titled "The Aging Architecture Sector: Realities and Solutions" to the AUBEA 2024 conference. Don will present it this week. The abstract reads: "The Australian architecture industry is threatened by new forces such as AI coupled with traditional ones, i.e. Design Builders, to increase sector risk. Thus, professional challenges have increased, and stagnation has emerged.  Professional billings have decreased for the past 5 years. These issues have been well discussed in traditional media, online, and by associations, but there have been disparate responses. This paper is a brief analysis of the current trends and potential solutions. The research concluded that a revitalisation initiative is needed. Answers include collaboration with the government and allied industries and a refocus on expanding markets. More in-depth research is necessary to plan specific initiatives to strengthen the profession and its future".

For those in AEC, the rise of digital twins and AI could have a more profound impact than most realise. One of the biggest changes that is coming to AEC is iteration and learning speed. The change from experience based "here's 3 options we looked at that we think will work" to "here's the 10,000 simulations we ran to explore options and here's the subset of predictions we want to incorporate into the project and asset", is being coupled with feedback from construction and operations comparing actual to predictions, in order to improve future predictions. This last bit is so key and I feel is so misunderstood: "in order to improve future predictions". Creating processes that feedback what works and what doesn't into your next decisions is a concept as old as time, but it's always been completely experiential and individual. You, the project mgr, learned a lot, over 5 years, and take that forward. 99% of the things you learned were lost though. And you only saw 5% of the things that happened. And you discarded 99% of the inputs that didn't align to your existing bias (sorry, experience). Yes, you learned, and you will keep learning, but it's locked in your head and it was a tiny sliver of the totality and it's massively biased. Humans are fantastic at learning at human scale. Riding bikes. Cooking spaghetti. Berating subbies. We're terrible at learning lessons about large scale and complex systems. It takes many many generations of human endeavour to move the needle in an industry, and we all talk about how many needles seem to move in the wrong direction. So, here's my honest advice: Embrace the idea of testing formal simulations and predictions against the real world, at scale, and as granular as possible. Make more predictions. Be wrong more often. Learn faster with more iterations and embed those learnings into systems. Systematised iterative feedback loops that improve future predictions is an insane growth loop. I am continually impressed by the strength of #ChatGPT, especially the #01-preview. Here’s an example, one even the most experienced #Revit professionals often get wrong, of ChatGPT describing in detail the process of setting up a Revit project to real-world coordinates. The animation begins with the demolition phase, followed by excavation, piling, and structural assembly. We used Revit and 3DsMax for modeling and animation, Vray for rendering, and Adobe After Effects and Premiere for composition to follow the actual construction timeline and give a realistic view of each stage. The video is synced to the actual construction schedule, reflecting each stage accurately.
