Behind every tool that redefines an industry, there’s a visionary team. Do you know who created Revit Software? Meet Leonid Raiz and Irwin Jungreis - the minds behind Revit. (Connect with them, Not sure if they are active now days!) Here’s a glimpse into the early days of Revit, as shared by Irwin Jungreis: “It (Revit) was born in Newton (we wrote the first specs in Leonid's living room), took its first steps in Wellesley (in a small office space over Domino's Pizza, where we had the first implementation of walls, doors, windows, and the basic regeneration algorithm), and then spent the rest of its childhood in Framingham (in the 'Good & Plenty' building)." - Irwin Jungreis, Co-Creator of Revit Here is the timeline of Revit Software Original software was developed by Charles River Software, founded in 1997 ↓ Renamed Revit Technology Corporation in 2000 ↓ Acquired by Autodesk in 2002 ↓ Structure Expand - 2005, MEP Expand - 2006 ↓ Dynamo Released - 2011, Revit LT - 2012 ↓ Today Revit remains at the forefront of the AEC industry, constantly evolving to support new technologies and workflows. From its humble beginnings to its current status, Revit continues to transform how we design and build. How has Revit changed the way you work? Drop your thoughts in the comments! Fun Fact: The name Revit comes from “Revise Instantly,” reflecting the software’s key capability! Thanks for reading this post, See you on Next Content

Mastering Revit – The Power of Shortcut Keys As I continue my deep dive into Revit, I’ve discovered just how essential shortcut keys are for optimizing workflow. Today, I focused on learning Revit’s shortcuts and was amazed at how much faster tasks can be completed. These shortcuts not only save time but also boost productivity and make processes more efficient. Using these shortcuts helps simplify tasks, allowing us to focus more on the design and less on navigating tools. Here are a few important Revit shortcut keys: 1) DI -ALIGNED DIMENSION 2) DL- DETAIL LINE 3) EL -SPOT ELEVATION 4) RT -TAG ROOM 5) TG- TAG BY CATEGORY 6) TX- TEXT 7) CL- COLUMN 8)CM -PLACE A COMPONENT 9) DR- DOOR 10) GR -GRID 11) LL- LEVEL 12) RM -ROOM 13) RP -REFERENCE PLANE 14) WN -WINDOW 15) ER -EDITING REQUESTS 16) AL- ALIGN 17) AR -ARRAY 18) CO or CC- COPY 19) CS -CREATE SIMILAR 20) DE- DELETE 21) EH- HIDE IN VIEW, HIDE ELEMENTS 22) MM -MIRROR (PICK AXIS) 23) MV -MOVE 24) PN -PIN 25) RO -ROTATE 26) TR -TRIM/EXTEND TO CORNER 27) SL -SPLIT ELEMENT Excited to integrate these into my daily workflow and enhance my efficiency in Revit. Small changes can make a huge impact. Note: Revit shortcuts can vary slightly depending on the version of the software, user customizations, or regional settings. If you know any other useful Revit shortcuts, feel free to drop them in the comments! I’d love to use them in my work too.👇

Ever wondered how those duplicate families get into your Revit project? You have probably seen them pop up in your project browser, where there are 2 apparently identical families, but one of them has a '1' suffixed to its name. This happens when you paste a Revit family into your project that has the same family name as an existing family, but is slightly different (extra parameter, renamed parameter, whatever). Now when you use Revit's paste functionality from the ribbon, you will get a nice warning telling you that it has renamed the inserted family. However if you paste into the project by using ctrl+v then Revit will not give you any warning at all and it just pastes the new renamed duplicate family into your project. Besides this being very annoying (and if you are like me then you hate having a polluted project browser), it can quickly grow into a much larger problem. I have seen projects where half of the MEP networks had 1 type of family and in the other half of the MEP networks it had the duplicate type of the family. Now if you want to replace those families you are in for a headache, where replacing one family with the other will cause all kinds of disconnects which will cost you hours of reconnecting them all. So be careful when copy pasting families into Revit from one project to another and regularly check your project browser to tackle those duplicate families issues before they grow into much bigger trouble. Or.... wait a little longer for a Revit plugin that Arjan Noya and I made that will help keep your Revit project clean!

Learning and practicing Revit is an ongoing process. It usually depends on your professional needs, or on times when developers present a new version of a product, like it is happening with Revit 2025 these few days. You have to continuously explore new tools and techniques, whether you’re just starting or already have experience. Here are 3 essential Revit tools that everyone should try and use: ✅Align tool is a useful and fast way to modify elements in Revit. It allows you to align, distribute, or organize selected elements, annotations, tags, and text along the axis you specify. To use it, select the Align tool in the Modify tab, click the reference element, then click the element to move. It can move and rotate elements simultaneously and allows you to lock elements together so they move as one. ✅Detail Lines tool is ideal for quick layout experiments, Detail Lines are visible only in a single view and are not part of the 3D model. They provide additional information in detail and drafting views, making it easier to work with dimensions and layouts. ✅Tab Visibility The latest and exclusive update of our BIMPROVE Add-In that helps you to create a workspace with only tabs you’re currently using on display. With “Tab Visibility”, you have the power to hide them effortlessly, optimizing your workflow. 1. Open the Revit application, simply navigate to the «BIMprove» tab, and run the «Tab Visibility». 2. Add or delete tabs with an intuitive toggle button that corresponds to each tab’s name. 2.1 The toggle buttons for System tabs and Add-Ins tabs allow you to efficiently alter all children tabs and to tailor Revit to your needs. Was this brief list helpful? Share your thoughts and tell me what tools you use the most during your Revit workflow!
