The tech behind Moth Tracker is the work of the talented team at Federation University Australia ❤️ 🦋
Weighing less than a gram, the Bogong Moth is one of nature’s most remarkable travellers, undertaking a 1,000km migration across Australia. These small but mighty creatures play a vital role in supporting the critically endangered Mountain Pygmy-possum, providing a key food source for their survival. But here’s the challenge: Bogong Moth numbers are in steep decline, and they’re now listed as endangered by the IUCN. This puts both the moths and the Pygmy-possums at risk. That’s where the power of citizen science comes in. Federation’s Centre for eResearch and Digital Innovation (CeRDI) and Zoos Victoria have teamed up to create Moth Tracker — a platform where everyday Aussies can help protect this incredible species by contributing to research and conservation efforts. Get involved and make a real difference: https://bit.ly/3DicBe4 #FedUni #WildlifeConservation #FedUniResearch #NatureConservation

Moth Tracker has surpassed 1,000 verified Bogong Moth sightings this migration season! 🤯 This is a 318% increase compared to the same time last year, showcasing the growing interest and dedication of the community to become citizen scientists. We're incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed their sightings. Your efforts are crucial in both the conservation of this important moth and the Mountain Pygmy-possums that rely on it. 🦋 Keep your eyes out for Bogong Moths and keep the momentum going on Moth Tracker - https://lnkd.in/gSKK3zP6
