Congratulations ELO2 and our fellow consortium members in winning the federal grant to design, construct, and operate the Australian-made “Roo-ver” that is heading to the moon! We’re proud to be a part of this historic opportunity that will see Australia become a leader in space exploration. The Roo-ver is a lunar rover on a mission to explore the surface of the moon and contribute to Australia’s involvement in the Artemis Program. To quote Technical Director of ELO2, Joseph Kenrick, we’re set: “To go to the Moon with an Australian flag and forever solidify its place amongst the stars. "Consider for a moment the Australian flag and the key defining feature of the Southern Cross constellation—the Northern Hemisphere equivalent of Polaris... Australia and its people have looked to space for over 40,000 years, using it as a source of inspiration for art and stories, motivation to pursue greater things, and navigation to guide the wanderer on their journey… And Australia has chosen [the ELO2 Consortium] to do it." It is an extreme privilege to be a part of the Roo-ver’s journey and to be a part of the ELO2 Consortium. Wendy Smith Benjamin S. David Hocking #ELO2 #LunarRover #SpaceInnovation #AustralianMade

A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy and testing lab. Proudly Australian owned and operated since 1973.
About us
Established in 1973, Vipac Engineers & Scientists Ltd has organically grown to become one of Australia’s leading engineering testing laboratories and consultancies. The name, Vipac, stems from our original competencies which included vibration (Vi), pressure (p), and acoustics (ac) testing. Today, Vipac offers an all-inclusive service, able to comprehensively test and report on all manner of air distribution, cybersecurity, defence & aerospace, electrical safety, environmental, facade, instrumentation, metrology, thermal, traffic, whitegood (performance), and wind engineering. Our consultancy services are offered those who require acoustics & vibration, building, infrastructure, environment, and industrial occupation testing. Vipac Engineers & Scientists is, importantly, BSI (ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001), ILAC MRA, NATA, and A2LA (for environmental testing in Sydney) certified. The company is also recognised by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) – making us Australia’s only ambient environmental tester for the marine sector. Proudly Australian owned and operated, Vipac Engineers & Scientists has offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide. These are home to over 100 qualified and experienced specialists in their respective fields. Furthermore, Vipac offers holistic engineering testing services whereby we test, recommend, apply amendments, then test again prior to completion of our reports. The world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa; Australia’s first satellite in over three decades, FedSat; Singapore’s Changi Airport; Jakarta’s Golden Snail (IMAX theatre); the world’s largest greenhouse, Gardens by the Bay; and the world’s first round deep-water drilling rig, COSCO, are just some of the engineering feats Vipac have provided invaluable testing for. Congratulations, Julia Giang, a student at Monash University who is studying Mechanical Engineering. Julia has been awarded the Michael John Smith Scholarship in recognition of her work. Julia developed a tabletop board game to assist immigrants in Australia learning English. It was designed to increase the players English speaking confidence while having some fun. Michael Smith was the founder of Vipac Engineers & Scientists Ltd in 1973. He grew the company into an international business involving major projects such as the Burj Khalifa, Dubai; Changi Airport (T2) and Gardens by the Bay, Singapore; the Keong Emas IMAX Theatre, Jakarta; and the first Federation Satellite, Australia. In recognition of his entrepreneurship, his vision, and his compassion, the Smith family has awarded the scholarship and wishes Julia well in her upcoming studies. Julia Giang Wendy Smith Benjamin S. Vipac Engineers & Scientists worked with lead contractor, CPB Contractors to provide a qualitative Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) assessment of the New Bundaberg Hospital in Bundaberg, Queensland. As part of the project’s scope, Vipac assessed the impact of the building's induced turbulence to ensure safe and efficient use of the proposed flight paths. Additionally, Vipac conducted CFD simulations assessing the impact of helicopter rotorwash on pedestrian areas and the building's façades. Over the past six months, SMFA has collaborated with Citify to develop a scheme for the prominent Buckingham Arms site. This project honours the original Buckingham Arms, a local heritage building, which will be revitalised as a hospitality venue. Additionally, four ground-level tenancies will be introduced, activating both Northcote and Walkerville Terrace. The development features a diverse mix of housing types, including short-term accommodations, and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA). These offerings are complemented by robust and extensive resident and public amenities.
