  • Just over two weeks ago, Tom Price was hit by a storm with headwinds of up to 146km/h. With no time to prepare, the storm, which only lasted roughly 10 minutes, uprooted entire tree systems and took roofs from buildings and homes. Despite the near-catastrophic damage, the immediate community and volunteer efforts were overwhelming. With individuals, local businesses, volunteer groups, Shire of Ashburton crews, and clubs working together over the last fortnight, Tom Price is well on its way to returning to normalcy. To celebrate the incredible efforts both in the aftermath and the recovery stage, our Community Development team planned a free Community BBQ, an opportunity for us all to come together, thank a neighbour, and express our gratitude to all those who offered a helping hand. The challenges the storm left behind could have overwhelmed us, but instead, they became an opportunity to show the heart and character of our town. From lending a helping hand to a neighbour, to working long hours despite your own commitments, our Tom Price community's contributions have been nothing short of extraordinary.

  • 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐨 𝐁𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐢𝐨 𝐓𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 The Shire of Ashburton, in collaboration with Rio Tinto, is excited to announce the completion of the Paraburdoo Bike Park which is open to the public as of today. This exciting development brings a state-of-the-art recreational facility to the Paraburdoo community and is a significant step in enhancing local infrastructure for all ages. The project follows over a year of dedicated planning and construction. In May 2024, the tender was awarded to Byblos Construction to design and build both the Bike Park and Dog Park upgrades, incorporating feedback from community surveys conducted in September 2023. Construction began in August 2024, with teams working diligently to create a vibrant new space for residents and visitors to enjoy. Shire President, Audra Smith, is excited for the new addition and the opportunities it will bring community members. “We’re always seeking ways to enhance our communities and make them more engaging for our residents, and the Paraburdoo Bike Park is a perfect example of that commitment. All children deserve access to recreational spaces that are safe, educational, and most importantly, fun! “This park not only promotes active, healthy lifestyles, but also fosters a sense of community among residents and visitors alike. A space for locals to gather, exercise and connect, becoming a community hub. I look forward to seeing our community fully embrace this wonderful new asset,” said President Smith. The Paraburdoo Bike Park also marks a milestone as the first project completed through the Inspire Community Partnership with Rio Tinto, whose invaluable support made this development possible. Rio Tinto Managing Director Port, Rail and Core Services, Richard Cohen said: "Providing a space for children and young people to be outside, exercise and have fun with their friends is important to Rio Tinto as a good local and community partner. “Many of our team members live in Paraburdoo with their families and pets. The new Paraburdoo Bike Park and the improved dog park help create a vibrant, healthy community that is a place families want to live, work and play.” The Shire of Ashburton and Rio Tinto extend their thanks to all those involved in bringing this project to life and look forward to celebrating the grand opening with the community on Monday, 9 December. The Facilities team gave it their tick of approval at lunch time!

  • The Pilbara Regional Waste Management is rapidly becoming the leading provider of recovery, recycling and Class I to Class IV landfill solutions in the Pilbara region and surrounding areas. Located on the outskirts of Onslow close to the North West Coastal Highway, the PRWMF offers unparalleled services to commercial, industrial, mining, oil, and gas customers. The PRWMF provides a diverse range of services catering to all waste types (both solid and liquid), from Class I inert material to Class IV hazardous and contaminated waste. This ensures that businesses operating in the industrial, mining, oil, and gas sectors can confidently rely on our services for the responsible management of their varied waste streams. Follow our LinkedIn page to stay updated and see the progress of this Pilbara facility!

The Shire of Ashburton is excited to announce the completion of new liquid evaporation ponds at the PRWMF, adding a massive 15,000 tonnes of capacity. Conveniently located on the Onslow Road, close to the North West Coastal Highway, this development marks another step forward in our commitment to delivering sustainable and locally driven waste solutions. Alongside the evaporation ponds, we’ve also developed 7,500 tonnes of drying pad capacity, designed to handle challenging industrial waste streams like drill muds, biosolids, clay and silty sediments and brine waste. This addition provides local industry with a dedicated solution for managing and processing these materials efficiently on-site, supporting industry needs and environmental responsibility. By handling both liquid and solid industrial wastes locally, we’re significantly reducing the need for long-distance transfers outside the Shire, a win for local businesses and the environment.

  • Tom Price declares a WAR ON WASTE! Throughout August, Ashburton kids were busy creating stickers for the Shire to decorate the town’s bins, encouraging everyone to be litter-conscious community members. We're excited to announce that these stickers are now displayed on bins throughout Tom Price. Stickers from local artists in Pannawonica, Paraburdoo and Onslow will be going up soon. This shows a little fun can always be had while bringing attention to important issues within our Shire, while encouraging residents be more waste conscious and feel involved.

  • Tender awarded for the construction of the Onslow Ocean View Caravan Park and ANZAC Park The Shire of Ashburton is pleased to announce the progression of a long-awaited project that will greatly contribute to the local visitor economy and the community as a whole. The Ocean View Caravan Park (Phase 3) and ANZAC Park extension in Onslow are moving forward, following the recent tender awarded for construction at Octobers Ordinary Council Meeting. These enhancements will offer improved amenities, recreational spaces and expanded caravan park facilities, creating significant benefits for both residents and tourists. This development strengthens the Shire’s commitment to boosting tourism, attracting more visitors to the region and ensuring that Onslow continues to thrive as a key destination within the Shire and Pilbara region. Awarding the tender will enable Onslow to accommodate more visitors, especially in anticipation of its signature events, such as the annual Passion of the Pilbara and the Staircase to the Moon festival. These popular events are major drawcards for the town, and the new facilities will ensure Onslow is well-prepared to welcome an increasing number of attendees. The project’s importance lies in its ability to enhance Onslow’s infrastructure, contributing directly to the Shire’s visitor economy by providing high-quality accommodations and public spaces. Further updates on the project’s milestones will be shared as works progress.
