Creating Change Together in the Advertising Industry Diversity and inclusion have long been challenges in the Australian advertising industry. If we are to ensure our long-term prosperity, we all have a role to play in creating meaningful change. As a leading ACA agency, Rare has actively participated in the Create Space DE&I research program, implementing immediate actions to address real or perceived issues of inequality, exclusion, and underrepresentation within our business. While we are proud of our achievements, we recognise that there is still much work to be done. Recent media coverage surrounding a national media network, coupled with issues involving a prominent industry publication, has rightly sparked concern and disappointment. The gender disparity in our industry is a real challenge that we must collectively overcome. Some agencies have voiced their anger or taken action against these organisations. At Rare/Hearts & Science WA, we believe in acknowledging these incidents while working through them. We are committed to achieving gender balance within our agency—not simply for parity, but because we believe the best candidates naturally emerge when we create an inclusive environment. We celebrate our senior female leaders who not only contribute significantly to our success but also serve as inspirations to many young women at all levels striving to develop and build exciting careers. The only way to overcome discrimination and foster inclusivity is by cultivating an industry culture that simply does not tolerate it. This can only be achieved through open engagement, sharing perspectives, and collaborating towards a better tomorrow. Let’s continue to work together to create a more inclusive advertising industry for everyone.
