Last year we saved a well-known manufacturer $450K per annum on their network charges. This manufacturer had organised new connections themselves, without the help of consultants. Following standard procedures, the Network Provider applied the default business tariffs to the manufacturer. Had this manufacturer came to us to assist them with their new electricity connection, we would have been able to set the tariff right from day 1. Furthermore, we would have secured them cheaper rates via our competitive tender process.

In our September 2024 Electricity Market Review, we reported how electricity spot prices went down significantly compared to August. Wholesale futures prices were also stable due to cool weather, low demand and an abundance of renewable energy coming into the grid. We also touched on a few topics including the following: • AGL’s new method for powering Bayswater coal-fired plant up and down much faster thanks to a strategy developed in the UK. • More renewable energy records are being set in Australia. • An additional 7 GW of renewable energy capacity will be added, including 3.1 GW from rooftop solar • NSW granted an operator’s licence to the ACEREZ consortium to build 240 KM of transmission lines in a $3.2 billion-worth project. • The commencement of the Tesla Megapack Battery installation in the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub in Victoria. alongside other relevant developments across the NEM. Are you aware of the consumer protections available to energy users in Australia? Businesses with higher usage (commercial and industrial electricity customers) have consumer protections that are starkly different from those that small to medium enterprises (SMEs) and residential users enjoy. Knowing what these are empowers you, the consumer, to make informed choices, protect yourself from exploitation, and helps you know your rights.
