  • On Saturday 19 October, Council hosted its bi-annual Compost Giveaway event at the Cumberland Council Depot in Guildford West. The compost comes from residential green lidded bins where it gets taken to a facility and turned into rich, healthy compost and given back to our residents where it can be used on home gardens and parks. It’s not waste, it’s a resource!    From 9am to 2pm, we gave away compost bags to 400 Cumberland households that are keen to kick start their veggie gardens. Each household received two free compost bags and a variety of vegetable seeds. The event was well received by the community.    A big thanks to everyone who helped us to make the event a success! • Have you ever crossed paths with someone who inspired you, uplifted others, or made a difference in your life? An individual or an organisation who reminded you that goodness and selflessness exists within your community?   Now it is your chance to honour those individuals and organisations, and give them the recognition they deserve!   We are excited to announce the Local Citizen of the Year Awards 2025 and invite you to share the stories of our local heroes.   This year's Local Citizen of the Year Award winner, Bulent Ada, is a shining example of this spirit. Dedicated to providing mental health support to individuals, particularly those from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds within the Cumberland Local Government Area, Bulent’s commitment and advocacy for mental health is unwavering. Over several years, he has volunteered his time to provide free psychological support services and has actively participated in various community events to assist those disadvantaged within our community.   To nominate your local hero, please visit: https://lnkd.in/gnq_nBRA #LocalCitizenoftheYear #CumberlandCityCouncil #LocalHeroes
