CCWA’s most prestigious award, the Bessie Rischbieth Conservation Award, was presented this year to Professor Anne Poelina, in recognition of her exceptional contribution to conservation in WA. As a Nyikina Warrwa grandmother and Chair of the Martuwarra Fitzroy River Council, Anne has been a passionate advocate for environmental justice. She has seamlessly blended Indigenous knowledge with modern conservation practices to protect the Martuwarra (Fitzroy River) and promote sustainable futures for her community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Professor Poelina for her unwavering dedication to conservation and her inspiring leadership. Congratulations Anne on this well-deserved recognition!

The Conservation Council of WA's Sundowner and Community Conservation Awards were held last night at The Wetlands Centre in Cockburn. It was an exceptional evening of laughter, tears, moving tributes and celebrations. Massive congratulations to all of our nominees and winners - the work that we all do to protect nature, climate and Country is demanding and deeply needed, so it's incredible to come together for one night to reflect on all that we've achieved. An evening of sustenance, recognition and reflection on campaigns past and those still to be fought. A special, special mention to the winner of CCWA's 2024 Bessie Rischbieth Conservation Award - the incomparable Professor Anne Poelina. Thank you to all our members, volunteers, campaigners, coalition partners and most importantly to the entire community for the support, strength and solidarity that we all need as we strive to conserve, collaborate and move towards true climate justice and care for Country.

WA’s government has just stripped itself of the power to regulate emissions from the biggest fossil fuel projects, handing control to Canberra. This shocking announcement from the WA government means that our state will no longer be able to impose conditions on big polluters to bring down emissions. This move weakens climate action, benefiting big polluters at the expense of WA's nature and renewable energy. We must start protecting our environment, not surrendering it to fossil fuel giants. https://lnkd.in/g_ACwhKS #ClimateAction #WAGovernment #FossilFuels #EnvironmentalProtection #RenewableEnergy #ClimateCrisis #Sustainability #WAEnvironment #PollutionControl #ActOnClimate #NatureLawsNow #EPA #DefendWANature
