To mark International Day of People with Disability this year, City of Port Phillip is hosting a panel discussion with three of Victoria’s most ardent disability advocates – Peta Hooke, host of the I Can’t Stand podcast, Sam Drummond, lawyer and author, and Eliza Hull, award winning musical artist, writer and journalist. Focusing on the theme of allyship, the panellists will explore how we can all take action to positively impact the world around us. The event will be held at the St Kilda Library, 150 Carlisle St, St Kilda from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm, Tuesday 3 December. As we approach the 2024 local government elections, Council will enter caretaker mode for the period known as the Election Period. The Election Period starts at 12 midday today, Tuesday 17 September, and continues until 6 pm on election day, which is Saturday 26 October 2024. In accordance with the Local Government Act 2020, during this period Council resources will not be used for electoral matter (other than providing information on the election process), and any material produced by councils must not contain content that could influence the election. This means that communications via Council’s social media and other communication channels will be limited to only essential information during this time. We’re excited to announce the debut of Melbourne Food & Wine Crawl and Bite Southside, a new five-event series produced as part of a partnership between Port Phillip Council and the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. Happy Wear it Purple Day! 💜 🌈 Wear it Purple Day strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for young people in the LGBTIQA+ community. Our Pride Network hosted a Wear it Purple Day afternoon tea for staff, where we were joined by Minus18 Foundation guest speaker Charlie Farmer. Charlie shared their story of growing up in the LGBTIQA+ community as well as the importance of active allyship and practical tips to support our friends, colleagues and clients in the rainbow community. Those longing for a splash of sunshine can pencil Saturday 15 February and Sunday 16 February, 2025 in their calendar, where the 44th annual St Kilda Festival will take place as a two-day program. We're proud to deliver the Festival, which brings significant economic benefits to St Kilda and Victoria each year. Last week we hosted our Stand for Council event at St Kilda Town Hall in partnership with @MAV, where potential candidates heard from a range of Council Senior Leaders about what the day-to-day duties of a Councillor could look like.
