  • BioNSW and AusBiotech sign MoU to Deepen Collaboration BioNSW, a rapidly growing not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to harnessing the full potential of the New South Wales Life Sciences sector, has formalised a new partnership with AusBiotech, Australia’s national industry body representing more than 3,000 life sciences members. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) represents a significant step forward in promoting a connected and thriving biotechnology ecosystem across NSW and beyond. The partnership underscores a shared commitment to catalysing innovation, investment, and skills development across the sector. Together, BioNSW and AusBiotech will work to amplify the strengths of NSW’s biotechnology industry, accelerating cross-sector collaboration and promoting growth.      Brad Walsh, Acting Chair and Co-Founder of BioNSW, said:    “As Acting Chair and Co-Founder of BioNSW, I’m delighted to see the formalisation of this partnership with AusBiotech, a key step forward in strengthening the biotechnology ecosystem across New South Wales and beyond.  "The NSW LifeSciences Sector is significant in size and importance with the largest number of Biotech companies amongst the Australian states and territories – with the sector having doubled in size over the last 7 years.     Leadership Update from BioNSW It is with mixed emotions that the Board of BioNSW announces that Anthony Murray, our inaugural Chairman, has returned to the United Kingdom for personal reasons. Anthony, along with his co-founder Brad Walsh, played a pivotal role in the establishment of BioNSW and was a driving force behind our successful first year. His leadership, vision, and passion for the life sciences sector have made a lasting impact on BioNSW’s growth and direction.   As Anthony transitions, Brad Walsh will step into the role of Acting Chairman. Brad shared, "On behalf of the BioNSW Board of Directors, I want to express our sincere thanks to Anthony for his dedication and leadership. We wish him all the best in the UK and look forward to welcoming him back to NSW in the future."   BioNSW is a membership organisation dedicated to catalysing life sciences innovation by connecting, promoting, and representing the companies and professionals of NSW.   • BioNSW welcomes yesterday's announcement by the Minister for Industry and Science, the Hon. Ed Husic MP, and the Minister for Education, the Hon. Jason Clare MP of the Terms of Reference for the Strategic Examination of Australia's R&D Performance (which had been foreshadowed in the May 2024 Federal Budget). BioNSW also congratulates the R&D Review Chair (Robyn Denholm) and the Review Panelists (Dr Kate Cornick, Emeritus Professor Ian Chubb AC and Professor Fiona Wood AO) on their appointments to this important Review.   This Strategic Examination will assess the economic growth and productivity benefits from Australia's R&D Performance - with its findings due to be reported by the end of 2025.   With Medical Science being an important national priority, BioNSW is supportive of recognising, strengthening and maximising opportunities for keeping R&D value on shore for longer – for the benefit of Australia and Australians.     Last night BioNSW had the pleasure of joining with ARCS Australia and AusBiotech to host a memorable End of Year get together in North Sydney for the NSW Life Sciences Sector. With almost 300 people registering to attend it was an important indication of the strength and connectivity of the NSW Life Sciences Sector - as well as the value of ongoing collaboration with our other key partners. BioNSW is an ambitious Not-For-Profit Organisation dedicated to supporting the growth of the NSW Life Sciences Sector.
