I developed and open sourced a script that runs ffmpeg and uploads the result to an S3 bucket. By making this available as a service in Eyevinn Open Source Cloud you can benefit from this and use it to for example extract a section of a large video file without having to writing a single line of code. So a question people have asked me, what's the difference between the DPA 2017 vs 4017C. Just posted our latest video showing the DPA Microphones 2017 on a Radius windshields RAD-2 Shock Mount. Two pretty simple recommendations for this mic. However, in addition to the 2 setups in this video you can use our softest hoops for more isolation if only using indoors with a foam. Honestly I'm not qualified enough to talk in detail about the acoustic differences between the 2017 vs the 4017C. What I can say is that the mics sound similar but not exactly the same. Personally, I liked the sound of my own voice using the 2017, but preferred the 4017C for a few nature recordings I did. The 2017 is a bit heavier than the 4017C (not by a crazy amount but noticeable). However the 2017 is still lightweight in terms of other shotgun mics. The body of the 2017 also feels very solid. Lastly with regards to wind protection -- the mic capsule on the 4017 is a bit further back from the front of the mic than on the 2017. So with a 12cm Nimbus or other slide on wind protection with a rubber end cap, you don't have to "bottom it out" on the 2017 ... just slide it past the line where the preamp starts. Customer feedback and reception have been overwhelmingly positive since we launched our Gen-IC Cloud Intercom service at the start of the year. Transitioning production workflows from on-premises to cloud-based tools is not always smooth, and getting crews and personnel fluent with new systems can come with many teething challenges. However, one of the main pieces of customer feedback we get is how intuitive Gen-IC is to use especially with the self-serve SkyPort portal. Moreover, the users of the system continue to work with the same virtual clients or physical panels (hybrid systems) that they have come to love for many years. This results in much lower deployment costs as no user training is required. Gen-IC is our first product venture into managed cloud services, and it’s hugely rewarding to hear that it is enabling our customers to save time and money, making productions as efficient as possible. Based on ffmpeg I developed and open sourced a live encoder service that provides a REST API and Web User Interface to start and stop the ffmpeg encoder. This code is now available as a service in Open Source Cloud. This means that you can try this out without having to have your own infrastructure for it at first. But if you later decide you want to run it on your own infrastructure there is nothing preventing you from it, as the code is open source and available on GitHub. FAST Channels Follow in the Footsteps of Diginets—Broadcast television’s transition from analog to digital signals promised to make way for a variety of new broadcast channels, allowing “multiplex” sub-channels where once only a single linear channel was possible. What emerged was a lot of cheap television, as these new channels were only profitable to operate when content costs were kept as low as possible, a strategy relying heavily on older library content and syndication. Current FAST services are an evolution of this business model. They both thrive on low operating costs, but while Diginets cut costs on the content side, FAST channels minimize their distribution costs, giving them a little more room to invest in content. The hits keep on coming. Of all the things I had going on at BitSummit in Kyoto last week, getting our on-site team of demo specialists (Andy and Joey) ready to show tens of thousands of people Tigertron's latest game #Starwave was one of them. I whipped up some eye-catching banners and branding, ordered a few thousands of dollars worth of supplies (USB cables, handiwipes, etc.) to keep two Meta Quest 3s in operation at all times, with another on standby, while a projector broadcast the game on a 60" screen in the background. Aside from getting all this organized in Kyoto, with Andy's huge help, the game pretty much sold itself. Starwave is easy to pick up and play and to instantly know what to do. Of course the game has a few mechanics (stardust trails, percussive comets) to differentiate it from the pack, but it's simple enough to figure these out just by whacking on them or running your wands through the stardust, like Wall-E in space. Apparently @UploadVR understood the assignment, because they wrote up the most awesome preview of the game, even name-checking Child of Eden (Xbox 360/PS3) which I was a producer on. "For all the exertion required to get top marks at harder levels, it felt almost calming, even freeing. The presentation is clearly designed to accompany such a liberating emotion, rainbow galaxies soaring beyond my field of view in ways not too dissimilar to games like Child of Eden, a crescendo of graphics and audio that transported me from the show floor to somewhere entirely new." I honestly can't imagine a preview reading any better than this one here, and if reading this gets you half as excited about the game as it did the author, please wishlist it on the Meta Quest store ahead of the game's launch in September. This game has been in development for quite some time (the concept dates back almost 10 years), so it's exciting to know it's finally coming out after many years of chipping away at it.
