Botala Energy Ltd Wins 4MW Solar Project Tender In Botswana’s Serowe Energy Hub Botala Energy Ltd is pleased to announce that its consortium has been awarded the tender for a 4MW solar power project by the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC). This project, located in Serowe, Botswana, marks a significant expansion of Botala’s diversified energy portfolio. The tender was awarded to the Botala-led Serowe Solar Consortium, which includes a binding Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with BPC for a duration of 25 years. The National Transmission Company South Africa (#NTCSA) has announced a major investment of R112 billion ($6.3 billion) to overhaul the country's transmission grid. The Transmission Development Programme (TDP) aims to integrate nearly 30,000 MW of utility-scale renewable energy into the national grid within the next five years. NTCSA Chairperson Priscillah Mabelane emphasized the urgency of this project during the company's official launch on October 7, 2024. The initiative recognizes the crucial role of the private sector in bringing 53,000 MW of required capacity online over the next decade The TDP focuses on unlocking the potential of wind, solar, and other green energy projects by addressing the current inadequacies in transmission infrastructure. This investment is expected to significantly boost South Africa's renewable energy capacity, with 11,000 MW of new capacity projected to be online by 2027 NTCSA's long-term strategy involves an R390 billion ($22.1 billion) investment to construct 14,000 km of transmission lines. Over the next decade. These new lines will accommodate independent power producer (IPP) projects and distribute renewable energy to high-demand areas. SOUTH AFRICA'S REIPPPP BID WINDOW DEADLINES If you missed the bid window (BW) extended submission dates announcement, fear not—ESI Africa has you covered. This concerns renewable energy BW 7 and battery storage BW 2 and the exciting potential they hold for your business.    The good news is that you now have until 15 August this year to prepare your submission papers for REIPPPP BW 7, giving you ample time to put together a strong proposal. For this Request for Proposals, the country seeks 5,000MW of new generation capacity, comprising 1,800MW of solar PV power and 3,200MW of wind energy. But there is a downside. With this extended submission date, the preferred bidders' announcement will only be in mid-November. This will impact your bottom line as it pushes any commissioning date even further out.   If your company is named as a preferred bidder, you will then have a month to apply to Eskom/National Transmission Company of SA (NTCSA) for a budget quotation. This process involves submitting a detailed financial plan for the project, including projected costs and revenue streams, to Eskom/NTCSA for review and approval.   Your project's commercial close under this extended date is expected to be about eight months after that, with a financial close expected a month later. The Scheduled Commercial Operation Date for the renewable energy projects is expected to be two years after commercial close, by at least mid-2027.   Now, the date for the 615MW under battery storage Bid Window 2 has been moved to 29 August (from 6 June). This BW round is specifically to procure storage capacity spread across the eight Eskom substations in the North West province.    This updated timeline also moves the preferred bidder announcement to the end of November this year, giving bidders until the end of December to apply for budget quotations from Eskom/NTCSA.   Commercial close would be expected by the end of April 2025. After this, the projects would then be scheduled to come online two years later. This means that by the end of April 2027, the projects should be fully operational and generating revenue for the successful bidders.   Good luck to all interested in securing these lucrative deals.
