As we end Transport month in South Africa I wanted to reflect on a thought shared by Kantar at a recent presentation they did for us. They said the mark of a true brand custodian is consistency not difference particularly in what the brand stands for not necessarily in execution which of course has to change with the times and customer expectations. I am proud of a lot that we have achieved this year including hosting the launch of the UN global campaign on road safety, various thought leadership pieces, launching our new brand campaign, a breakthrough product launch with the introduction of the Vitality Car rating, fixing over 250 000 potholes to date and most recently being voted as the best automobile insurer by The Global Insurer. Underpinning all of this is Vitality Drive and a very clear and distinct core purpose of creating a nation of great drivers. The award recognised Vitality Drive 3.0 which uses the latest telematics technology, behaviourial economics and superior data analytics to reward our clients and create sustained behaviour change which creates safer roads for all. In comparison, the next highest market share belongs to Apple, which holds approximately 16% of the South African smartphone market. The company attributes its popularity in the country to its wide range of devices, which are designed to cater to the needs of different segments.

In today's data-driven world, the value of loyalty programs has skyrocketed, especially in the South Africa, where 76% of consumers use them. “A recent study by BrandMapp by WhyFive and Truth found that 30% of South Africans are using loyalty programs more than last year, driven by economic pressures. For retailers, this is a critical opportunity to tap into data-rich loyalty programs to engage and retain customers,” comments Stefan Gerber, Co-Founder at Tregter. "As digital technologies advance, companies must evolve their data strategies accordingly." However, Gerber cautions that before integrating AI into business operations, a solid data management foundation is essential. "If you input poor quality data into an AI system, you'll get poor quality results." To harness the full potential of AI, businesses need to focus on data warehousing—a centralized storage system for customer information. Complementing this is a Customer Data Platform (CDP), which unifies customer data to enable personalized marketing, sales, and service.
