“Maiyo is such a great coach, mentor, teacher and a friendly spirit that is really interested in seeing people grow. One thing that stood out for me is her natural ability to make you comfortable, that you don't feel like a client but a friend talking to a friend. I would pitch up to a coaching session thinking that I know exactly what issues need addressing, only for her to redirect my thinking to something else (that usually answers questions that I had not even asked myself yet). If you are feeling stuck, feeling like you don't have purpose or needing guidance on how to progress in your career (or life in general), please reach out to Maiyo and let her be your accountability partner. She loves watermelon like I do, so maybe I was brainwashed lol... but she does come with a great sense of humour, a very infectious laugh and overall good vibes to her approach. You will enjoy your sessions, I can guarantee it.”

South Africa is currently reshaping its education landscape to meet the demands of the future workforce. A recent breakfast hosted by Workforce Training and Consulting addressed this exact topic. The seminar was titled “Navigating South Africa’s Education Landscape for Future Skills” and convened leading experts and stakeholders to explore pivotal strategies and solutions. Key discussions revolved around the imperative for inclusivity in the economy, the role of lifelong learning in tapping into untapped talent pools, and the transition to the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) as a pivotal step in enhancing skills development. Read more about this important seminar and the important theme it addressed, by clicking on the link below. https://rpb.li/fiv7 #Leadership #WorkforceTrainingandConsulting #WorkplaceEducation #FutureWorkforce

COACHING is a process of empowering a team member by taking them outside their comfort zone and focusing on them finding their own solutions. Nancy Kline says, “A brilliant coach is the one who brings out the brilliance of others.” This is the process of stretching them outside their comfort zone whilst holding them in a space where they feel they can be vulnerable to exploring different options without judgement. This is an opportunity for them to find the answers themselves and contribute to better performance and achievement of their goals. A misconception is that coaching requires a long time, yet a manager can still empower their team member in a short time. It is critical to have a clear objective or goal that needs to be achieved. As we celebrate Women’s Month in South Africa, we engaged with some impactful female leaders to discuss the most significant challenges they have faced in their leadership journeys. Belinda Knight is the Managing Executive of Stellenbosch Business Institute. Belinda what has been the most significant challenge you have faced in your journey, and how did you overcome it? I am a can-do person. Tell me what the problem is, and I will find a solution. My favourite saying in my youth was, “’n boer maak ‘n plan.” So, when I was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2009, I stalled. I had no solution, no plan, nothing. It was an extremely intense time for my family and me as a single mother with two teenage children. But there is an inner resilience that we can reach in and pull on when we really need it. A strength, looking back, we cannot imagine we have. Not dwelling on the challenge and getting sucked into a whirlpool of despair and fear and showing my children a brave face that this too could be overcome, I believe helped me to breathe. I am grateful that the tumor was benign, even though the recovery was a rocky road for 9 months, but I am here today to tell the story. To remind us to pause and look up and appreciate the sun. To remember we control our thoughts, and it is up to us to stay positive and to always look for the light in the dark moments. To surround ourselves with people who care, and to be vulnerable and say, “I need help now please.” I have very few remnants of the tumor. I function mostly normally although my family and team members may disagree! But I am aware that this could have had a different ending, and I fully believe that when we need the strength, it is there for the taking. Our mindset determines so much of how we cope, how we show up, who we are. And I prefer a positive outlook, mostly, as I am human! My mantra now in my latter years is, “this too shall pass.” Nothing is so great that it cannot be overcome or accepted.

"If you aren't happy for the small victories, then you might never be happy." It's important to celebrate the smallest of things! The post is a bit late, but it is worth posting. I did my fifth podcast with Mr. Sofi Zahoor, and it was absolutely delightful, with tons to learn. The example that you quoted, how a small effort from any individual in the organization can make so much of a difference, had an important message: all of us have the power to contribute to a larger purpose in our individual capacities. From a people's person to another! :) The post has already garnered more than 8k views! ;) #learning #celebratingsmallwins #beingHR #GIBSBusinessSchool

To my South African family and personal friends, who know me, who together we are seeking wisdom to guide us on 29 May 2024, this phrase is a constructive message too :"Aequam memento rebus in arduis servare mentem"= "remember to keep a clear head in difficult times" or "remember when life's path is steep to keep your mind even". Vote not out of fear or with a jaundiced mind. Muslims will recall Hudaibiya, also known as the Pact of Al-Ḥudaybiyah or the Hudaybiyyah agreement,.Summarized,it was a treaty between the Islamic Ummah of Prophet Muhammad [ PBUH] and the deviant Quraysh tribe of Mecca in 628 . The treaty included the following terms: # Political recognition: Mecca recognized the Muslim community in Medina # Religious recognition: Mecca recognized the Muslim community in Medina # Ten-year ceasefire: The two sides agreed to a ceasefire. This didn't please many of the faithful for they're couldn't perform the hajj which was their main aim for advancing with their, and our, Beloved Prophet [ PBUH] who agreed to some of the most humiliating terms and conditions therein. It was in the long term that they lost track of the proverbial 'devil-in-the-details'. The fact that during its duration,Mecca as did the whole region fell to Islam, and they were free to return from exile and perform their hajj and umrah free and in safety, was lost to those who had short sighted wisdom. So when you, especially,my Muslim brethren and sistren, cast your vote remember the long term goal. Crime and corruption and service delivery failures are only short term or temporary self inflicted wounds that can and will be aggressively healed, though the scars will abide and we'll remember Madiba's cry of 'Never,Never, and Never Again' of 10 May 1994.

Urgent Skills Development Providers: We implore Minister Dr. Blade Nzimande to extend the legacy qualifications and unit standards of the SETAs for a duration of three years. It is imperative to emphasize the severe ramifications of failing to extend these provisions. Job losses would escalate, endangering the livelihoods of countless individuals. We call upon the Minister to closely oversee the alignment of SETAs with occupational qualifications and skills programs, employing a streamlined approach. Monitoring SETAs is crucial to mitigate delays that could further exacerbate the situation. Immediate action is indispensable to safeguard current employment, sustain operating businesses, and facilitate uninterrupted educational pursuits for learners. We wholeheartedly endorse this plea and petition, affirming our support through participation and signature. https://lnkd.in/dKwgZRCP

As Business Owners and Senior Management team members, what is the message we send to our employees, clients and the youth when we keep quiet about this? "Civil society organisations have condemned the decision by the National Assembly on Tuesday to elect impeached judge John Hlophe, of the MK party, to represent the National Assembly on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC)." Hlope is "someone who was found guilty of gross misconduct and stripped of his position as a judge". "It is a cruel irony that aspirant judicial officers will be assessed on their ethics, integrity and fitness for judicial office by commissioners who themselves have been found guilty of misconduct." "It is also deeply contradictory that the ANC, which voted for the impeachment of Hlophe, has today voted in favour of his appointment to the JSC." I find this a disgrace. Surround yourself with the right, relevant support. Equip yourself with relevant **factually correct** knowledge. And remember, “The purpose of knowledge is action, not knowledge”. Challenge the status quo, starting with yours. #strategy #foresight #education #lifelonglearning #economy #future #business #innovation #leadership #BusinessOwners #businessadvice #TABBoards #tabboardssa

Empowering Women Leaders: The Role of All-Girls Private Schools in South Africa As gender equality evolves, education is crucial in shaping future female leaders. All-girls private schools in South Africa lead this mission, creating environments that nurture leadership, confidence, and ambition. These schools are more than educational institutions; they incubate the next generation of women who will influence society, business, and politics. All-girls private schools offer a supportive environment, free from the social pressures of co-ed settings. Students are encouraged to express themselves, take risks, and embrace leadership roles. Without gender competition, young women focus on personal and academic growth, becoming more confident and assertive. Leadership is central to daily life in all-girls private schools. Students have many opportunities to lead, whether as head girls, sports captains, or club leaders. These roles come with real responsibilities, teaching accountability, teamwork, and decision-making. Through these experiences, young women learn to lead with confidence and integrity—skills invaluable in any career. Known for academic rigor, many all-girls private schools emphasize STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), challenging gender stereotypes. By excelling in these fields, students gain the confidence to pursue careers where women are underrepresented. High academic standards ensure graduates are well-prepared for university and beyond. Mentorship is key in developing young leaders. All-girls private schools often have strong alumnae networks that serve as role models and mentors. These connections provide guidance and inspiration, showing students what is possible when they pursue their ambitions. Guest speakers, workshops, and mentorship programmes connect students with successful women across industries, broadening their horizons. Beyond academics, these schools focus on building essential soft skills for leadership. Confidence, resilience, and emotional intelligence are woven into the school experience. Public speaking, debates, and community service help students develop self-assurance and empathy. The challenges they face build resilience—a crucial trait for overcoming future obstacles. All-girls private schools in South Africa play a vital role in empowering the next generation of women leaders. By providing supportive environments, leadership opportunities, and strong academic foundations, these schools ensure students are equipped to break barriers and lead with confidence. The leadership skills cultivated in these institutions will not only benefit the students but also contribute to a more equitable and inclusive society. #WomenLeadership #Education #Empowerment #GirlsEducation #LeadershipDevelopment #WomenInLeadership #EducationForAll #AllGirlsSchools #FutureLeaders #DiversityAndInclusion #InspiringWomen #Mentorship #SouthAfrica

Celebrating Heritage Day: Embracing Our Diversity for Organizational Success As South Africans, Heritage Day is a powerful reminder of the rich cultural tapestry that unites us. Our diverse backgrounds and unique heritages shape who we are, not only in our personal lives but also in the professional world. In my work as an Industrial Psychologist, I have witnessed the positive impact that embracing cultural diversity has within organizations. By recognizing and valuing the different traditions and experiences that each person brings to the workplace, we foster environments where innovation, collaboration, and personal growth can flourish. Inclusivity is not just about acknowledging differences but about leveraging them to create healthier, more resilient teams. Whether it’s through wellness initiatives, talent management, or leadership development, integrating diverse perspectives leads to organizational success. As we celebrate Heritage Day, let’s take this opportunity to reflect on our roots and the strength we draw from our collective diversity. I encourage everyone to think about how we can contribute to creating inclusive workspaces that respect our individual heritages while driving collective progress. Share your own stories, traditions, and what Heritage Day means to you. Let’s continue learning from one another and celebrate the diversity that makes us stronger. Happy Heritage Day, South Africa! 🇿🇦 #HeritageDay #DiversityAndInclusion #WorkplaceCulture #CulturalDiversity #Inclusion #OrganizationalDevelopment #IndustrialPsychology #EmployeeWellness #Unity
