Dialogue Earth and the Africa-China Reporting Project at the Wits Centre for Journalism, held a workshop on Reporting Climate Change in Africa, on 1 November 2024, at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. The Workshop convened with selected and invited journalists, media scholars and professionals, to develop their skills and knowledge on climate change reporting within the context of Africa. 📚✍️ Reporting Climate Change in Africa: A day of expertise, engagement and impactful learning On Friday, 1 November 2024, journalists, media professionals, and scholars gathered at the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg South Africa for the Reporting Climate Change in Africa Workshop. This day-long event, hosted by the Wits Centre for Journalism's Africa-China Reporting Project and Dialogue Earth, was packed with insightful sessions and expert-led discussions aimed at empowering journalists to cover climate change in the African context. The workshop kicked off with a warm welcome from Africa-China Reporting Project's Project Coordinator, Bongiwe Tutu, followed by an introduction to the Reporting Climate Change in Africa Consortium by Dialogue Earth's Africa Impact Editor, Brian Obara Wang’oma and the workshop objectives from The China Global South Project's Africa Climate Editor, Njenga Hakeenah. Following the introductory session, participants engaged in a series of interactive sessions led by esteemed trainers and facilitators: - Understanding Climate Change in Africa with Duncan Mboya (Independent Journalist, Kenya). - African Sources and Voices in Climate Change Coverage with Sydney Kawadza (Editor, Zimbabwe Independent). - Climate Change in Africa - Global Development and Geopolitics with Zubaida Mabuno Ismail (Investigative Journalist, Ghana). - Climate Change in Africa’s Curriculum with Dr. Enoch Sithole (Institute for Climate Change Communication, South Africa). - The Climate Reporting Toolkit Africa with Dr. Enoch Sithole and Njenga Hakeenah. - Writing a Reporting Grant Proposal with Bongiwe Tutu.
