About us

Mpact is the largest paper and plastics packaging and recycling business in southern Africa, employing 5,095 people and generated revenue of R12.8bn in the 2023 financial year. Our footprint: The Group operates across 43 sites, comprising 24 manufacturing sites, and 15 recycling operations. Proximity to our customers contributes to faster response times, reduces transport costs, and creates economies of scale. Our integrated business model is uniquely focused on closing the loop in plastic and paper packaging through recycling and the beneficiation of recyclables. Our strong customer relationships, the thorough understanding of the industries they operate in, and our commitment to innovation allow us to continue creating fit-for-purpose sustainable packaging solutions as well as value-added services that anticipate our customers’ needs. Mpact remains South Africa’s largest collector of recyclable packaging, having collected 594 million/kg of recyclables (paper, glass, beverage cans, plastic, and liquid board packaging) from pre- and post-consumer streams in 2023. By closing the loop on paper and plastic, we not only reduce the amount of material going to landfill, but also promote the local beneficiation of raw materials and support the development of SMMEs.

  • Reflecting on a year of innovation and sustainability. As we wrap up another year, we’re proud to celebrate the progress we’ve made in advancing recyclable and sustainable plastic packaging solutions at Mpact Plastics. Our mission to create sustainable, high-performance packaging drove significant advancements in materials, processes, and partnerships aimed at improving recyclability and reducing waste. This is undoubtedly demonstrated by the awards received this year. Key highlights include reduction of virgin materials, increased use of recycled content and optimising packaging designs to improve recyclability. Scientific capabilities are integrated at every stage of the value chain. Strong focus is given to support fit-for-purpose food packaging, taking into consideration the risks associated with using recycled materials. Specialist techniques are employed to trace any contaminants that might adversely affect food packaging. Thank you to our customers, partners, and team members for being part of this journey. #Mpact #MpactLimited #MpactPlastics #Innovation #Sustainability #CircularEconomy

  • Close the loop with us. At Mpact Plastics, we champion circular solutions and urge both brand owners and consumers to take responsibility for sustainable waste management. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on reducing plastic waste and protecting our planet, especially as we enter the festive season where our beaches, rivers and recreational facilities attract holidaymakers with a wide range of consumable items. Our mission is clear: to keep plastic packaging out of landfills, oceans, and waterways. Microplastics, originating from various sources such as the breakdown of larger plastic items, resin pellets used in manufacturing, and microbeads intentionally added to cosmetics, detergents, and other products, present a serious threat. Consumers play a vital role in recycling once they understand how to properly dispose of plastic packaging. This starts with reading the recycling symbols displayed on our packaging. #Mpact #MpactLimited #MpactPlastics #CircularEconomy #SustainablePackaging

  • Closing the loop on the circular economy. Mpact Group plays an important role in closing the loop on the circular economy in southern Africa through our position as the largest paper and plastics packaging and recycling company in the region. Responsible environmental management is both a key focus area for the business and an important aspect of our strategy to create value. How do we do it? ·      We purchase raw materials from responsible sources. ·      Most of the fibre used in our paper mills is supplied by the Recycling division. ·      Additional virgin pulp comes from responsible source. ·      Our paper mills and Paper Converting plants are certified to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) standards. ·      The Plastics business uses recycled polymers in production to client specifications. ·      An increasing percentage of the high-density polyethylene used in the manufacture of crates and wheelie bins. ·      Pallets in the Bins and Crates unit comes from on-site recycling. #Mpact #MpactGroup #SustainablePackaging #CircularEconomy
