We Reduce Energy Use to Protect Our Climate

Industry must do its part to protect our climate. We applaud the growing number of countries and businesses that have already set ambitious targets for climate action. We support the conclusion of a climate change agreement in Paris that takes a strong step forward toward a low-carbon, sustainable future. Delaying action on climate change will be costly in economic and human terms, while accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy will produce multiple benefits with regard to sustainable economic growth, public health, resilience to natural disasters, and the health of the global environment. We support climate action and policy that align with the goals of the Paris agreement and global decarbonisation pathways that limit the warming of Earth’s atmosphere to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Our intention is to conduct internal initiatives and external engagement activities aligned with the Paris agreement. This imperative is why Xerox set a Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) verified target aligned with 1.5°C world and joined the SBTi’s Business Ambition for 1.5°C pledge. To this end, we are focused on reducing carbon emissions in our operations and value chain by cutting energy use in our facilities, investing in product and solution designs to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, offering energy-efficient solutions to our customers, and embracing digital transformation to more effectively enable the distributed and hybrid workforce.

Carbon Footprint Reduction

Our aim is to achieve carbon neutrality no later than 2040. Since establishing our first targets in 2003, we have achieved significant reduction in our energy consumption and GHG emissions.

  • Eliminated 151,000 metric tons of CO2e from our annual operation emissions since 2016.

  • Nearly 50% energy reduction in operations since 2016.

  • In 2016, we created a goal to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions by an additional 25% by 2025, which we achieved by year-end 2019.

  • We are now focused on reducing our Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by at least 60% by 2030 against the company’s 2016 baseline, in line with the ambitious 1.5°C science-based global warming target.

  • Our value chain target is to reduce total upstream and downstream Scope 3 emissions by 35% from our 2016 baseline. For a detailed breakdown of Scope 3 emissions see our CSR Goals and Progress Summary.
