URGENT is a highly regarded creative youth development organization that utilizes an asset-based approach to help young people uncover and cultivate their unique talents and skills. Through our innovative programs in digital media arts education, positive youth development, and career connected learning, we recognize and build upon the diverse strengths and assets of young people. 

At URGENT, we believe that kids learn best through doing and that creativity is a powerful tool for personal and societal growth and transformation. By providing opportunities for young people to engage in the creative process, we help them to find their voice, share their stories, and make positive change in their lives and communities.

HISTORY

Founded in 1994 by a small group of concerned residents who wanted to see change in Miami's urban core, Urban Renewal Greater Enhancement National Team (URGENT) rose out of the ashes of the '80s riots and a depressed urban economy of the '90s. The organization was established in response to the systemic challenges and deep-rooted issues facing Miami's low-income communities and communities of color, which had been ravaged by decades of economic disinvestment, social inequality, and racial tensions. Despite these challenges, URGENT has remained a steadfast force for positive change in Miami's urban core. 

For over 25 years, the organization has been dedicated to promoting youth and community development in the city's most vulnerable neighborhoods. URGENT envisions a future where all children and youth have the social, economic, educational, and creative space and resources to thrive.

In its many years of operation, URGENT has established itself as a leader in creative youth development, leveraging an asset-based approach to help young people uncover and cultivate their unique talents and skills. The organization has received numerous awards and recognition for its work and has maintained a strong track record of stability and success.

 Looking ahead, URGENT is committed to continuing its important work in Miami's urban core. As the organization celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024, URGENT remains steadfast in its purpose to build a brighter future for Miami's young people and communities.
