Meet Auntie Em
Our featured member of the month is Auntie Em! "My name is Emilie but in order to not be confused with the exceptional Emily who started the book club with Ashley, I'm Auntie Em (because I'm also an auntie)." Emilie lives in the Pacific Northwest, which according to Emilie, is the perfect place to read creepy books, especially in the fall and winter when it's rainy and cold. Adds to the creep factor.
Her 3 favorite creepy books are:
Five Strangers - it was one of the bonus books we read. I read it like a year ago and it still hasn't left me. I'm pretty harsh on ratings for a lot of the books, but this is a hard five to me.
You Shouldn't Have Come Here - it was so creepy throughout the book, but the ending was so creepy, scary, and a little gross. Nailed it. Jeneva Rose seems so lovely and nice, I was like what the hell is going on?
Everyone Here is Lying - this was hard mystery creep and the ending was chilling. I hope I never meet an Avery.
Emilie's ideal retreat location would be at The Stanley Hotel in the Rocky Mountains, where The Shining was filmed. "I would give anything for a Danny to come flying around the corner on a Big Wheel." Want to know what Emilie loves doing when she isn't reading creepy books? "Is it bad to say I watch a lot of YouTube? I'm addicted to coverage of court cases. My favorite is Emily D Baker who does gavel-to-gavel coverage of cases. Her posse is called Law Nerds and she is fantastic. I also watch Lawyer You Know, he's great. Both of their commentary and break down of cases is so interesting, I've learned a lot and some of the cases are intense. I watch one or both of them almost every day. I also have a book club with my sister and nieces, so I get to read cool books through that too." Emilie's first creepy book was was something by Patricia Cornwell. Before she started it she remembers thinking, "how can a book be creepy?" She understood straight up horror books (hello Stephen King), but the creep factor is a nuanced beast. The hairs on her arms go up when she reads her books. Unsettling and fantastic.

About The Creepy Book Club
The Creepy Book Club was started in 2021 by Ashley & Emily, best friends and true lovers of thriller books. The community formed online was immediately special: books can truly bind.
Each month our book club members read the same book, then at the end of the month we discuss on social media and via zoom. It's amazing to know that we have a whole community of other thriller book lovers to discuss our favorite books with. Join us and share our love of books.
