Producer’s Responsibilities
• Leads the Team – People person
• Leads / organises meetings & paperwork
• Supports Director and makes it happen
• Responsible for Management of the Production from Pre-production to Post (and
sometimes beyond)
• Health & safety / Risk Assessment – planning and adhering to H&S
• Deals with everyone external to production as well as internally e.g locations

Director
Pre-production
• Creative Vision – look, feel, mood, talent, visual, sound
• Interprets Script – makes director’s notes
• Communicates vision to Crew and Cast
• Directs and collaborates with HoDs
• May work on marked up script and/or storyboards (with DoP)

On Set
• Directs the action
• Blocks the scene
• Works closely with Actors
• Works closely with AD and DoP

Post-production
• Directs Editor; watches cuts, gives notes/guidance
• Directs Sound Design
• May direct grade

1st Assistant Director (AD)
• Organises the schedule of the shooting days (Call Sheet)
• Coordinates Production Activity
• Runs the Set - Supervising Cast and Crew
• Acts as Proxy/Shield to Director on Set - so that director can work with actors
• Calls the shots on set (Claps if no AC)

Paperwork:
Daily Call Sheet – contacts, location addresses, shooting schedule, breaks, call times for various
cast and crew

• Work with Director to create visual mood
• Lighting
• Framing / Composition
• Camera Movement

On Set
• Communicates with Director and Camera Operator
• Blocks Scenes with Director

• Supervises ACs, Clapper Loader etc or does it all on small shoots
e.g Changes lenses, organises SD cards, charges batteries
• Cleaning kit and parts between use and a new person handling them

Pre-production
• Visual concept/ design for all aspects of mise en scene - location, set,
lighting, colour, graphics, costumes, props
• Creates visualisations of sets, props and costume in preproduction
• Builds and / or dresses Set
• Builds/buys/borrows/steals Props

On Set
• Prepare sets
• Organise all props and costumes and (re)places them as needed

• Collaborate with Script Supervisor and Director

• Advise Camera dept on settings

On set
• Data organisation; upload all cards
• Back up hard drives
• Name material correctly – workflow

Post-production
• Sync material
• Edit the film
• Export regular cuts for viewing – director, producer etc,
• Picturelock

Sound Recordist & Sound Designer
• Pre-production
Works with Director on concept/vision of sound design
Kit List
List of Wild Tracks, Atmos, Foley etc

On Set
• Records sound with takes for syncing
• Attaches radio mics to actors
• Records Wild tracks
• Records Atmos
• Supervises or also acts as Boom Operator
• Communicates notes to Script Supervisor
• Looks after all kit including charging batteries etc

Post-production
• Creates Foley; Collects Sound effects. May assist with Syncing material
• After Picture lock: Creates soundscape with various elements – taking direction / collaboration with
director
• Mixes tracks
• Exports mixes along the way and attaches to picturelock for group crits etc
