HISTORY

• What is Chemical?
• In chemistry, a chemical substance is a material with a specific
chemical composition.
• A common example of a chemical substance is pure water; it
has the same properties and the same ratio of hydrogen to
oxygen whether it is isolated from a river or made in a
laboratory.
• What is Petrochemical?
• Petrochemicals are chemical products derived from petroleum
• What is Petroleum?
• Evidence points toward petroleum being decayed plants and
animals from 500 million years ago. These organisms,under
heat and pressure and time converted this organic material
into the goods, we call petroleum

1.Polymer
• World's largest producers of polymers.
• Our 2009-10 polymer production (Polypropylene, Polyethylene and
Polyvinyl Chloride) is 4,091 kilo tones.

2.Polyester Intermediates
• 4th largest producer of Paraxylene (PX), 7th of Purified Terephthalic
Acid (PTA) and 7th of Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG).
• In India, it is the largest manufacturer of polyester intermediates
with a market share of 100% in some categories.
• Reliance is the only producer of PX while there are two PTA and
four MEG producers in India.

IOC – Indian Oil Corporation
• Indian Oil Corporation, is an Indian state-owned oil and gas
company
• It is India’s largest commercial enterprise, ranking 105th on the
Fortune Global 500 list in 2009.
• Indian Oil and its subsidiaries account for a 47% share in the
petroleum products market, 40% share in refining capacity and
67% downstream sector pipelines capacity in India.
• They owns and operates 10 of India's 19 refineries with a
combined refining capacity of 60.2 million metric tons per year.
• It is also the 18th largest petroleum company in the world.
• The refining as well as petrochemical businesses, account for more
than 95 per cent of revenues and 85 per cent of profits

• Gujarat Refinery, at Koyali in Gujarat in Western India, is Indian


Oil's largest refinery. The refinery was commissioned in 1965.
• It also houses the first hydrocracking unit of the country. Its
present capacity is 13.70 MMTPA.
