HOLY SPIRIT IN

CONNECTION WITH
MINISTRY AND
SERVICE
Zechariah 4:6
So he said to me, “This is the word of

the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by

power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.
I. The Holy Spirit baptizes and infills
believers giving power for Service,
Mark 16:15
15
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

a. Wait until the power from on High – Luke 24:49

I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city
49

until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

b. You will receive power – Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and

you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and

Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
c. Power of the Holy Spirit – 1 Corinthians 2:4
My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words,
but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power.
II. The Holy Spirit helps the believer
to pray, Romans 8:26-27
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to
26

pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who
searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s
people in accordance with the will of God.

a. With Groaning – Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we
26

ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless
groans.
b. With Supplication
c. With Petitions – 1 Corinthians 14:14-15
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.  15 So what
14

shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I
will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.
III. Holy Spirit gives the believer
spiritual gifts, Romans 12:6-8
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is

prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it

is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then
give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

a. For the common good – 1 Corinthians 12:7

Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
1. Prophesying, serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leadership, and showing
mercy – to help those people in need.
