Course instructors:
Section 1 (recitations sections 11, 12 …): Semra Öztürk ([email protected])
Section 2 (recitations sections 21, 22 …): Özcan Yazıcı ([email protected])
Section 3 (recitations sections 31, 32 …): Özcan Yazıcı ([email protected])

Lectures:

Lectures and Recitations will be delivered as scheduled in View Program Course

Details (64). Keep in mind that this course is 6 (=4+2) hours per week. The first
2+2=4 hours are for lectures and the last 2 hours are for recitations.

The lectures and recitations will be online and synchronized through Zoom. Each
section will have a different zoom link and students are asked to follow their own
sections. The video recording of the lectures will be posted on ODTUClass for
convenience. These lectures, videos and notes are intended only for Math 117
students and sharing the related links, videos and lecture notes with third parties is
strictly forbidden.

Recitation activity includes a number of online assignments (possibly weekly),

which will contribute to the student's total grade with some weight at the end of the
semester.

There will be Online Office Hours and an online Help Room service as well.

Course teaching assistants: Turgay Akyar ([email protected])

Students must visit this webpage often (say, twice a week) in order not to miss
any important announcement.
Exams:
You will take one Midterm MT-1 (Dec. 18, 2021, Saturday) and one Final Exam, each will be
conducted in-class.

If you have any reasonable excuse with an official document of proof for not to take the
exams in-class, you may apply to take all the exams online. To notify course coordination
about your case a questionnaire will be posted later on the web page or ODTUClass. If your
application is accepted, in this case, you must take an additional Oral Exam during the
semester or after the Final Exam. Structure of the online exams will be announced later. Keep
in mind that each online exam will be proctored with a CAMERA RECORDING and
PROCTOR. This option is only for students with valid reasons. Once you are accepted to
take exams online, you cannot take any in-class exams.

Grading:
In-Class Online

• In-class Midterm: 45 pts (December 18, • M= Online Midterm: 35 pts (December

2021) 18, 2021)
• In-class Final Exam: 55 pts (TBA) • F= Online Final Exam: 45 pts (TBA)
• Online Quizzes (BONUS): 5 pts (during • Q= Online Quizzes (BONUS): 5 pts
recitations) (during recitations)
• Oral Exam: A scaling constant C
ranging from 0 to 1,25.

Your total score = (M + F) * C + Q

Oral Exams are mandatory. If you do NOT take,
then C will count 0.

NA Criteria

If your Midterm grade is less than 20% of the full grade, (9 pts for in-class Midterm and 7 pts
for online Midterm) then you will not be allowed to take the final exam and you will get the
letter grade NA.

Make-up exam for those students having difficulties

For the online and in-class exams (M, F): There will be only one general make-up exam, which
covers all topics. The structure of the make-up exam may be different from the midterm and the final
exams. There will be an announcement including the format of the makeup and the application
procedures after the final exam. More details will be available on the MATH 117 webpage or
ODTUClass.
