LESSON 2B: GRAMMAR – PAST CONTINUOUS

I. OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:

1. Knowledge:

- Review the usages of the simple continuous tense

- Grammar: simple past continuous

2. Ability:

- main skills: reading and writing skills

- sub skills: listening and speaking skills

- Use the past continuous properly in exercises as well as everyday


conversations.

3. Personal quality:

- have positive attitude in English language learning so that they can participate
in all classroom activities

- know how to use the tense precisely in exercises, tests, and reality
conservations.
- Develop self-study skills, and soft skills.

II. TEACHER AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS:

Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, personal


computer, projector/TV, speakers.
Language analysis
Past Continuous Tense

● S + was/were + V-ing
● S + wasn’t/ weren’t + V-ing
● Yes/No question:

Was/ Were + S + V-ing ?

-> Yes, S + was/ were.

-> No, S + wasn’t/ weren’t.

● WH- question:

WH-word + was/ were + S + V-ing?

-> S + was/ were + V-ing +…

III. PROCEDURES:

A. Warm-up (7’)
a) Objective:

- Introduce the new lesson and set the scene for Ss to acquire new language
- Get Ss' attention at the beginning of the class by means of enjoyable and
short activities as well as to engage them.

b) Content: Students listen to the story of exercise 1 and answer the question.

c) Outcomes: Students can gain more confidence and interest in the lesson.

d) Competence: communication, collaboration, critical thinking
