Error when loading the project into an HMI Panel with Firmware adaption
Why does loading the configuration with Firmware adaption into a SIMATIC HMI-Panel fail?
Behavior
Description
Procedure depending on the type of error message
1. Missing Panel Image
2. Error during transmission
Behavior
An error-free compiled configuration cannot be loaded onto the HMI control Panel (Basic, Comfort, Mobile or Unified Panel).

Description
A project for an HMI control Panel is translated without errors. A message appears in the "Load preview" that the configured Panel Image version differs from the version
installed on the HMI control Panel:
"Components with a different version are installed on the target device."
"A more recent compatible Runtime exists on the target device." or "An older incompatible firmware image exists on the target device."

Fig. 01

Procedure depending on the type of error message

You have activated the "Fit" checkbox and receive one of the following error messages when loading the project (1. Missing panel image, 2. Error during transmission).
In the following video we show you the error message and the corresponding procedure for WinCC Unified Comfort Panels. The time stamps and the steps are listed
below the video.

00:00 - Error message

00:35 - Installation: Unified Panel Image (Point 1)
01:33 - Upgrading the Panel Image Version (Point 2)

1. Missing Panel Image

"Adaption of target device failed."
"Download has failed due to missing Panel Image. Please install the missing Panel Images. Refer to documentation."
"Error downloading to module [name of the assembly]."

Fig. 02
Cause
Before loading Panel, a corresponding "Panel Image" must be installed on the Engineering PC. As of TIA Portal V16, the Firmware Images of the HMI Panels are
supplied separately from the TIA Portal installation and are no longer installed automatically. The Setups for the "WinCC Panel Images" are therefore provided
separately from V16 onwards.
Procedure

Basic-, Comfort- and Mobile Panels (V16 and V17)

Install the corresponding image version. You will find this on DVD 3 (no Unified) on the download page of the respective trial version under the following link:
V16:  SIMATIC STEP 7 incl. Safety and WinCC V16 TRIAL Download
V17:  SIMATIC STEP 7 incl. Safety and WinCC V17 TRIAL Download
Note
To load an HMI Control Panel with an older Image version (e.g. Comfort Panel with Image version 16.0.0.0 from TIA Portal V17) under TIA Portal V17
(or TIA Portal V15.1), it is not sufficient to install the "WinCC Panel Images" setup alone, as this setup only contains the current Images. The "Legacy
Panel Images" setup, which contains older Image versions, must also be installed. This setup can be found on DVD 4 and can also be
downloaded from the download page mentioned above.
The V18 setup for Basic, Comfort and Mobile Panels contains the latest version of the panels at the time of the release of V18 (V17 Update
5).
WinCC Unified (Basic-, Comfort- and Mobile Panels from V18)
For WinCC Unified Panels, the images are generally offered as a separate download; the same applies from TIA Portal V18 for Basic, Comfort and Mobile
Panels.
The corresponding setup can be found under the following link:

2. Error during transmission

"Charging error: The charging process has been aborted!"
"Failed to load into assembly [group name]."
"A communication error ([error number]) has occurred."
"Loading is aborted due to a transmission error: [error number]"

The following error numbers can occur:

8020AB0019A5FFF4
8020AB0019A1FFF4
8020AB001992FFF4
8020AB0019D9FFF4
8020AB001A06FFF4

Fig. 03
Cause
One of the messages listed above appears if there is a discrepancy between the installed Image version on the Panel, the Panel version set in the TIA Portal
project and the installed version of the Panel Image on the Engineering PC.

Below are two examples that can trigger this message:

A Comfort Panel on which Firmware version 17.0.0.2 is currently installed is to be loaded from a system with TIA V18 on which the Panel
Images are not installed.
Although the Unified Comfort Panel itself has version 18.0.0.2, the project is to be loaded onto the Panel with Firmware version 18.0.0.3.

Procedure
As of TIA Portal V16, you must install the updates for the Panel Images separately from the Engineering system updates,
as the setup for the Panel Images has been separated from the TIA Portal setup.

Note on Unified
For WinCC Unified Comfort Panels, the Image version (main version + update) must also be set in the project.

Fig. 04

If an Image version does not match the version set in the TIA project, the installed Image version on the HMI Control Panel and the installed version of the Images
on the Engineering PC, a communication error occurs and loading is aborted.

To ensure that the project can be transferred without communication errors, the appropriate update for the Panel Images must be installed. You can download the
update from the following link:
