Project Name: FTP Download Manager Using Java Swings
Objective:
The main objective of this project is to develop an application that provides faster and flexible downloading of large files.
Abstract:
The Download Manager is an application that provides faster, more flexible large-file downloading than is normally available through browsers. Autodesk uses this application to make it easier to download large files. The Download Manager should be installed and configured at each partner for enabling receiving and processing data requests from users as submitted to the portal. The Download Manager (DM) should provide interaction with the portals Request Status Manager (RSM) for receiving user requests on local data sets which are described in the CDI directory; Download Manager architecture in Data Center is presented on next page. The Download Manager lets you download larger files than some standard browsers allow. You can pause and resume downloads at any timeeven if you restart your PC or close your browser.
Following are the features provided in our application: Pause/ResumeToggles between pausing a download and resuming. You can select a file to pause or to resume downloading if previously paused. If you click Pause, the button changes to Resume. Cancel Removes a file from the download list and stops downloading it. Details Shows a dialog box that displays the download progress, how much time is left to complete the download, and the file transfer rate. Exit Pauses whatever downloads are in progress and closes the list window.
Introduction:
A download manager is a computer program dedicated to the task of downloading (and sometimes uploading) possibly unrelated stand-alone files from (and sometimes to) the Internet for storage. This is unlike a World Wide Web browser, which is mainly intended to browse web pages, composed of a multitude of smaller files, where error-free moving of files for permanent storage is of secondary importance. (A failed or incomplete web page file rarely ruins the page.)
The typical download manager at a minimum provides means to recover from errors without losing the work already completed, and can optionally split the file to be downloaded (or uploaded) into 2 or more segments, which are then moved in parallel, potentially making the process faster within the limits of the available bandwidth.
The Download Manager provides detailed information about download progress and success rates. If the website uses cookies to authenticate your download requests, the Download Manager will use those cookies the same way your browser would.
Download managers are useful for very active Internet users. For dial-up users, they can automatically dial the Internet Service Provider at night, when rates or tariffs are usually much lower, download the specified files, and hang-up. They can record which links the user clicks on during the day, and queue these files for later download.
For broadband users, download managers can help download very large files by resuming broken downloads, by limiting the bandwidth used, so that other internet activities are not affected (slowed) and the server is not overloaded, or by automatically navigating a site and
downloading pre-specified content (photo galleries, MP3 collections, etc.) this can also include automatically downloading whole sites and regularly updating them.

Conclusion:
The use of this application helps us to download small as well as large files from the Internet more easily, quickly and in a flexible manner with detailed information about download progress and success rates.
