Course Outline: Landscape Architecture


Course introduction
This course amalgamates advanced landscape architectural design with architectural planning. It
aims to introduce collective practical approaches in Landscape design and planning and their
implementation. Keeping in view the issue of sustainability, this course also focuses onregional
land development and foster landscape practices that reduce environmental impact and promote
sustainability.
Learning Objective:
This course will introduce the students to the fundamentals of landscape architecture and main
principles of landscape design. The students will learn the history of landscape architecture,
landscape perception and studies of landscape types in diversified contexts, represtented on the
work of various landscape architects. Through class discussions and interactions, the students
will develop skills in critical thinking. They will demonstrate their skills in using the main
concepts and methods that enhance the landscape design process; analysis of the visual
characteristics, spatial structure and organization of landscape and planting design, to be able to
design a conceptual design project.
Outcome
Upon the successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:
• Have skills to create balance between economic realities and modern landscape design
requirements
• Understand the issue of sustainability and evaluate and devise sustainable initiatives for
an efficient landscape design
• Aware of regional preferences in landscape architecture
Evaluate landscape options for a variety of situations.
Learning Methodology:
• Lectures as provided in the schedule of the semester activities
• Study of Archival Material and recommended books
• Guest Lectures as per requirement
• Presentation on allocated topics
Grade Evaluation Criteria
Following, is the criteria for the distribution of marks to evaluate final grade in a semester.
