WARNING 2 : BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU SOLDER:

— THE SOLDER WILL MAKE FUMES WHEN HEATED. THESE FUMES
ARE DANGEROUS. WORK IN AN AREA WITH A GOOD AIRFLOW.
— DO NOT TOUCH THE SOLDERING IRON WHEN IT IS IN USE. THE
SOLDERING IRON WILL BE HOT DURING USE. THE HOT TOOL
CAN CAUSE INJURY.
— DO NOT TOUCH THE SOLDERING IRON UNTIL IT IS COOL. THE
SOLDERING IRON WILL BE HOT AFTER USE. THE HOT TOOL
CAN CAUSE INJURY.
— WASH HANDS THOROUGHLY AFTER WORKING WITH SOLDER
BEFORE EATING, DRINKING OR SMOKING.
— SOLDER WILL BE HOT WHEN BEING USED. WEAR
APPROPRIATE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT.
(1) Identify the 3 wires (1-2) of the cable assembly (1-3) at the avionics cooling fan (1-
1) terminals T1, T2 and T3.

CAUTION : You must be careful when you desolder the wires. Damage can occur
to the terminations and wire if you do not obey this caution.
(2) Desolder the 3 wires (1-2) of the cable assembly (1-3) at the cooling fan (1-
1) terminals T1, T2 and T3 as follows:
(a) Apply heated soldering iron bit to the join to be desoldered.
(b) When the solder has melted sufficiently use a vacuum pencil to remove the
melted solder away from the joint.
(c) Remove the wire from the joint.

CAUTION 1 : You must be careful not to cause damage to the solder

connections on the avionics cooling fan terminals.

CAUTION 2 : You must be careful when you strip the insulation from the wires.
Damage can occur if you do not obey this caution.
(1) If the wire cores are damaged strip the insulation away from the wire to an
appropriate length.
(2) All wires (1-2) must be mechanically attached to their terminals before you solder.
Locate the wire in the required position (Operation 2.B.(1)). Wind the wire around the
terminal for a minimum of half a turn and up to one full turn (Figure 1, Detail A).
Make sure that the wire will not unwind itself.
(3) Solder the 3 wires (1-2) of the cable assembly (1-3) as follows:
(a) When the soldering iron tip is at the correct temperature, make contact with
the wire and the correct terminal. Apply solder to the wire and the terminal.
Make sure that adequate wetting occurs.
(b) When a sufficient amount of solder has been melted for the joint then remove
the solder wire and soldering iron in that sequence.
(c) Allow the solder joint to cool and harden. The soldered connection shall be
cooled in air at room temperature. Do not move or stress the joint at any
time during cooling of the solder.

D. Final Operations
(1) Do a bonding check (Work Card 55-00-00-602).
(2) Make sure that the work area is clean.

ELECTRONICS COMPARTMENT VENTILATION

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. Description
A. General (Figure 1)
The system for the electronics compartment ventilation uses external air. Air flows into the
aircraft through intake grilles into the electronics compartment and outboard through
exhaust grilles.
B. Intake Grilles
Two intake grilles are installed on the aircraft skin at the front of the cockpit canopy. A drain
hose is attached to each intake grille. This permits the moisture, that comes in through the
grilles, to drain overboard.
C. Exhaust Grilles
One exhaust grille is installed in the fuselage skin on each side of the cockpit. The exhaust
grille lets air flow from the electronics compartment to outboard of the aircraft.

2. Operation
A. General (Figure 1)
Forward movement of the aircraft causes external air to flow through the intake grilles into a
duct. The duct causes the air to flow into the electronics compartment to make the
equipment cool. Differential pressure between the intake grilles and exhaust grilles causes
the air to flow outboard through the exhaust grilles.

HF EQUIPMENT COMPARTMENT VENTILATION

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. Description
A. General (Figure 1)
The HF equipment compartment is made cool with air from the cabin. The air inlet is
installed on the lower left side of the cabin forward end. A grille is installed on the inlet. A
cabin/stub-wing inlet hose connects the cabin inlet to the sponson.
The air in the sponson goes through the transmitter/receiver ventilation inlet to an outlet in
the mounting tray. The plenum chamber on the mounting tray, for the HF equipment, is
connected to the sponson duct.
A stub-wing exhaust hose connects the sponson duct to the stub-wing exhaust outlet. The
cabin/stub-wing exhaust duct then connects the sponson outlet to the cabin exhaust duct. A
fan is installed inside the outlet pipe at the top of the exhaust duct. A second fan is installed
in the transmitter/receiver.
A sponson hose is attached to the air inlet compartment in the sponson. The flexible hose
connects the inlet compartment to the compartment for the aerial tuning unit, in the front of
the sponson.

2. Operation
A. General (Figures 1 and 2)
Air flows through the sponson and ducts because of differential pressure between the cabin
inlet and the exhaust outlet. This is caused by the operation of the fan installed in the
exhaust outlet. The fan installed in the transmitter/receiver increases the airflow when the
equipment is used.
The fan installed in the exhaust outlet will operate when 200 V ac is supplied to the aircraft.
The fan is connected to the 115 V ac Essential Busbar through three 5 amp circuit breakers.
The circuit breakers are installed in the inter seat console.

DOPPLER AERIAL COMPARTMENT VENTILATION

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. Description
A. General (Figure 1)
The ventilation system for the doppler aerial compartment, uses external air. Air flows into
the compartment through an intake grille in the floor of the AFCS controls compartment.
The air goes through the compartment and outboard through a rigid duct, a flexible duct
and an air passage. There is a grille on the outlet of the air passage. The grille is installed on
the left side of the fuselage skin below the cockpit sliding window.

2. Operation
A. General (Figure 1)
Different pressure between the intake grille and the exhaust grille causes the air to flow
through the compartment.

AFT RADIO COMPARTMENT VENTILATION

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1. Description
A. General (Figure 1)
The aft radio compartment is kept cool with the air in the compartment. There is no vent
outboard of the aircraft. A fan causes the air to flow around the compartment.
The ventilation ducting is installed below the cabin floor between the aft radio compartment
and Station 459. The left ducting lets the air flow to the fan installed at station 459. The right
ducting lets the air flow forward to the aft radio compartment.
This was given through Mod 561, Parts A and B.

2. Operation
A. General (Figures 1 and 2)
The fan causes air to flow into the compartment aft of Station 459. A different pressure
causes the air to flow between the compartments, through the right ducting. The air goes aft
to the fan through the left ducting. There is no vent to outboard of the aircraft but the airflow
decreases the equipment temperature sufficiently to prevent heat damage.
The fan will operate when 200 V ac is supplied to the aircraft. The fan is connected to the
200 V ac Essential Busbar through three 5 amp circuit breakers. The circuit breakers are
installed in the inter seat console.
