Building Resilience

to Climate Change
in India

inistry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change

Global Context
2 of UNFCCC

bilize GHG concentrations to prevent dangerous

hropogenic interference with the climate system.

be achieved within a time-frame

frame sufficient to:
to
-allow
allow ecosystems to adapt naturally to climate
change,
-ensure
ensure that food production is not threatened; and
-enable
enable economic development to proceed in a
sustainable manner.
mate Change Adaptation & Building Resilience

ve strategies and implement actions with a view to:

duce impacts of climate change, and help manage risks;

prove livelihoods, social &economic well-being,

well and responsible
vironmental management.

hance capacity of social, economic and environmental systems

d infrastructure to cope with hazardous event, trend, disturbance
e. Adapt, learn and transform while maintaining essential
nction/identity/structure);
limate Resilient Strategy:
ey components/challenges
essment
Identify vulnerabilities of communities and eco-systems
systems and make impact assessment;
Design dedicated programmes, projects and systems, where necessary, to address
impacts, conserve/develop natural resources and manage future risks;
Mainstream adaptation concerns in ongoing/new policies and programmes.
pacity
Build capacity to assess impacts;
Strengthen Community based institutions;
Design/implement adaptation programmes at various levels-Centre,
levels state,
communities, civil society;
Disseminate/communicate climate change information.

Mobilise and allocate financial resources.
dia’s Nationally Determined Contributions
To put forward & further propagate a healthy and sustainable way of living
based on traditions & values of conservation & moderation.
To adopt a climate friendly & cleaner path than the one followed.
To reduce emissions intensity of its GDP by 33 to 35 percent by 2030 from
2005 level.
To achieve about 40 percent cumulative electric power installed capacity
from non-fossil fuel based energy resources by 2030.
To create an additional carbon sink of 2.5 to 3 billion tonnes of CO2
equivalent through additional forest and tree cover by 2030.
To better adapt to climate change by enhancing investments in development
programmes in sectors vulnerable to climate change.
To mobilize domestic and new & additional funds from developed
countries.
To build capacities, create domestic framework and international
architecture for quick diffusion of cutting edge climate technology. 5
