There are 7 days in a week
How many days are there in a
week?

Very good! There are 7 days in a The days of the week are Sunday, Monday,
week. So, can you tell me what are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and
the days of the week? Saturday

(Write the days of the week in

order and let the pupils read them
twice)

this kind of card?

song. (Pupil will sing a happy birthday song)

Do you know when is your
birthday? (The pupils will answer the questions and share
their own experiences)

(Teacher will write on the board

the different months of pupil’s
birthday and read it to the class)

B. Development of the Lesson

1. Presentation of the Lesson
I have here a story of a girl who will
celebrate her birthday. Do you want
to know what the story is about? Yes ma’am!

That’s great! But before that what

are the things to remember while
listening to a story? Will you try,
Sofea? Listen attentively and take note of the important
details of the story

That’s right! I hope you will do that!

I will read you a story about a Grade
1 pupil named Nena.

Nena’s birthday will be on July

14. Her parents want a simple
celebration of her birthday at their
home because of the pandemic. She (Pupils will listen attentively to the story)
wants to invite all her friends, but it
is impossible since IATF approved
and recommended minimum health
standards protocols to fight
Covid19. Nena was hoping and
praying that next month, she will see
her friends and play with them. If
July 11 will be Sunday, what day
will Nena celebrate her birthday?

(After reading the story, teacher will

ask the following questions)
When is Nena’s birthday?
Very good! How Nena’s birthday July 14
will be celebrated?

That’s right! Can Nena’s friends It was a simple celebration with her family
will be there on her birthday?
Why?
No, due to pandemic we are experiencing today
we must follow the minimum health standards
set by IATF
Absolutely! What are the minimum
health standards that we must
follow to avoid the spread of
Covid-19? Can you give one,
Jessica? Wear face mask

Very good! Can you give another

one, Arden? Practice social/physical distancing

Excellent! To avoid the spread of

the Covid-19 virus, we must avoid
mass gatherings, practice social
distancing and always wear face
mask.

How can we determine the day of A calendar

Nena’s birthday? What we will
use?

Very good! We will use a calendar.

Today, we are going to determine
the day or the month using a
calendar.

Discussion
We will help Nena to find the day
of her birthday by using a calendar.

(Show a calendar)
This is a calendar. It is where we Calendar ma’am
see the dates and months in a year.
What do we call this again?

Correct! Let’s help Nena to find the

day of her birthday. Let’s solve the
problem in our story. If July 12 will
2 be Monday, what day will Nena
. celebrates her birthday? We have
different ways to solve the
problem.

The first solution will be to show

the
days and date of the week as follows: Yes ma’am

July 11-Sunday
July 12-Monday
July 13- Tuesday
July 14-Wednesday

If July 14 will be Wednesday it says that Nena

will celebrate her birthday on Wednesday.

The second solution to solve the problem, we

can use a calendar. I have here a calendar of
the year 2021. Do you have a calendar at home?

Do you know how to use the calendar in order

to know the day or the month?

A calendar is a very important tool in our daily

lives. It allows us to keep track of the days,
weeks, months and years. By reading the
calendar, we can know what year, month and
day it is. A year is divided into twelve months:
January, February, March, April, May, June,
July, August, September, October, November
and December. Each month is divided into
approximately 4 weeks. Each week is divided
into
7days: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In order to solve the problem in our story, we

will use the calendar. In order to know the day
of the given date, find the following:

✔ Given month

✔ Given date

✔ The day where it belongs

In using the calendar, see carefully the given

month and date. On the problem, it is on the
month of July
and the date is 14. We can see that
14 is under the column of
Wednesday. So, Nena’s birthday
will be Wednesday.

Let’s have another example. I have

here a calendar, use it to identify
the day of the given month and
date.

(Teacher will show more

examples)

In the calendar, we can see the

different holidays that we are
celebrating every year. What month
do we celebrate Christmas?

That’s right! How about New

Year’s
Day? December ma’am

Very good! We also celebrate

Independence Day on June 12. January ma’am

(Teacher will write and show the

holidays from the month of
January to December)

Enrichment Activity
Now class, let’s have an individual
activity. I will give you a calendar.
Trace the name of each month.
Then write the month again on the (Pupils will do the activity)
right side.
3. (Give the class an individual
4. activity sheet)

Everyone gives their best!

Congratulations for a job well
done!

Generalization
What tool/instrument can we use to
determine the day of a given month
and date?

Very good! How can we use the Calendar ma’am

calendar to determine the day or
the month?
In order to know the day of the given
Very good!’ date, find the following:

5. Application
✔ Given month
Let’s have another activity entitled
“Find Me If You Can”. I will group ✔ Given date
you into 3. Each group will be given
a 2021 calendar with specific month. ✔ The day where it belongs
Before we start, what are the things
to be remember when we have a
group activity?

I hope you will do that!

Group 1 will be month of April.

Group 2 will be month of May. Group
3 will be month of June.
(Let the children suggest standards Then post a
