1. OBJECT
2. SCOPE
Most p.c. boards contain E.S.D.'s and it has therefore been decided to treat all of them
in accordance with this Code of Practice.
Wherever possible duplex (dual cord) wrist straps and leads, the constantly
monitored type, must be used in preference to the earlier 10mm press stud
leads and wristbands.
If the wrist strap and lead is not of the constant monitoring type, the strap and lead must
be tested as defined in 4.2c, before starting work.
N.B. The operatives Wrist Strap & Lead is deemed as the prime method to discharge
Static Electricity from the operative to earth and bringing both the operative &
equipment/component to the same potential. The use of conductive flooring,
conductive chairs and conductive footwear (including heal grounders) are not
seen as essential within and ESD area and are not to be relied upon as a
means to discharge static electricity from the operative.

other materials.
Constant Monitoring Units: These units are installed on all EPAs and
alarm when either the wrist strap and lead or workbench dissipative
surface wiring circuit is broken and ESD protection is compromised.
+Note: All E.S.D.'s are contained within Kelvin Hughes code groups
Where EPA workstations are not fitted with a Constant Monitor Unit,
there is to be a "Kwikchek"* battery powered tester locally available, to
permit testing of single conductor wrist starps and lead sets before
starting work.
*If the pass alarm (and light) does not sound, do not start work, but
immediately notify your supervisor or contact the Calibration
Department. When 'Bat Lo' shows, contact the Calibration
department who will replace the battery.
4.4 Clothing.
All operatives handling ESDs, and all personnel within an EPA, including
visitors, shall wear outer clothing which does not generate a static charge.
Suitable attire is the company issue ESD coat.
All EPA workstations must either be fitted with a Constant Monitoring Unit or
shall be tested regularly by the Calibration Department to ensure correct
operation. The interval is to be determined by the Calibration Engineer in the
light of experience, or as directed by the Quality Manager
Receiving Inspection functions shall be carried out as far as possible without removing
the devices from their static protective packaging. Should it be necessary to remove

items for verification, this must be performed at an EPA work station (see section 4.2.)
Identify components to Order requirement and that they are marked in accordance
with 4.1b).
d) All P.C. boards shall carry the E.S.D. Warning Label. (See Fig. 2 page 8.)
f) Where components are not stored in ESD Protective Packaging, they may be
stored in suitably earthed conductive storage containers/racking, which are
suitably identified as ESD protected.
a) All work shall be carried out at an EPA workstation, type 2 (see section 4
clause 4.2.)
c) All E.S.D.'s shall be placed on the grounded bench surface prior to insertion
in the p.c. board.
e) All P.C. boards shall carry the E.S.D. Warning Label (See Fig. 2 page 8.)
6.2 Inspection
7. TEST
a) All equipment must be earthed when it's earth bonding point is to be used for
ESD wrist straps and leads.
c) Equipment on test must be switched off at mains supply and all capacitance's
PROCEDURE CP.206 ISSUE 8.2 PAGE 7
e) Voltages of greater than 1.5v should not be used for continuity testing.
Transient-free testers with an open circuit voltage not greater than 1.5v and
short circuit current not greater than 10ma must be used (buzzers not
permissible).
8. PACKAGING
Where a P.C. board is identified for a Spares delivery, the item as received
from Inspection, identified externally with its serial number and drawing code,
shall remain unopened within its E.S.D. protective bag (as previously
specified) and then be packed in accordance with the relevant SPIS
document. When it is necessary to remove an assembly from its E.S.D.
protective bag, this may only be carried out at an EPA workstation.
9. TRAINING
All personnel who specify, procure, design, mark, or handle ESDs in any way,
or visit EPAs, or are likely to do so, including those who manage and
supervise them; are to receive suitable training at intervals not exceeding 12
months.
10. AUDITS
Audits of ESD area's to be carried out at regular intervals, in line with company
policy, using KH Form 164. Non-conformance will be reported via C.A.R. (KH
Form 043).

date of invoice.
All assemblies arriving into the country are subject to import duties unless Kelvin Hughes can
provide proof of original export. It has been noted over the last 6 months, that returns are being
made to us with no indication on the documentation stating the original Kelvin Hughes order
number that these goods were originally despatched against, and therefore the time it takes to
obtain this information means we incur a financial loss while the goods are held in customs
awaiting this information.
It is therefore imperative that customers must ensure that the Kelvin Hughes order number that the
goods were received on must be clearly shown on all import documentation,
FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN US RECOVERING OUR LOSSES AGAINST

Unit Modification State Credit Categorisation
December 2005
Dear Agent,
Having listened to our customers, we have now abandoned the regional pricing structures that were in place so
that we can now offer all of our agents and customers based anywhere in the world the same spare part price
regardless of which Kelvin Hughes depot they order the spare part from.
In order for us to maintain a global coverage of spare parts in all of our depots that are readily available we incur
significant shipping and transportation costs. In the current climate of increasing transport costs driven by high fuel
prices and heightened security relating to the movement of freight we have found it necessary to review some of
our prices to reflect these increasing costs, however we believe that there will be significant benefits for our
customers from having one global price list.
Please note that all spares prices within the CD ROM where the price is marked with an * are Net prices to the
agent and no further discount is offered on these items.
Equipment support
Nucleus 1 Display/Processor
The Nucleus 1 5000 and 6000 series of radar displays and processors is now becoming impractical to continue
support due to component obsolescence and therefore, it is with regret, that we must withdraw support at the end
of 2005. Surplus stock of some items will be made available to Agents until the stock is exhausted. The Mk4 S
band RF head has also become obsolete and no further stock is available. Competitively priced upgrades from the
Nucleus 1 series radar system will be offered to all customers where we are no longer able to provide replacement
parts.
Surplus Stock
Contained within this CD-ROM is list of surplus stock for older equipment that will be sold at very competitive prices
net to the agent.
Returned Goods
Kelvin Hughes Customer Services will introduce a change to the Returned Goods System on 3rd January 2006. All
items being returned for Service unit credit must be agreed with Kelvin Hughes in advance of the item being
shipped an RMA tracking number will be issued authorising the return. Credit will be offered against items as listed
in the Service Unit Credit column of the Spares list providing that they conform with the criteria in the Unit
Modification State Categorisation. A credit will be offered either against the indent number of the original purchase
of the item, or against the purchase of a replacement part in which case an original indent number will no longer be
required.
The package being returned for credit, once an RMA number has been issued clearly marked with the number in
order for us to track the acceptance of the return. Failure to follow this process will result in items being disposed of
after a period of 14 days with no credit to the Agent. Full details of the operation of the new RMA system will be
published shortly.
Best wishes of the season to all members of the Kelvin Hughes Service network. Yours sincerely,
Due to the non-return of certain defective PCB’s and ensure our continued support across
the range of our equipment’s, it has been necessary to increase the selling prices as well
as the defective allowance offered on the items listed below, in order to ensure the
defective units are returned. The new defective allowances should of course be passed
onto your customer.
We will accept all defective mod states back and credit the allowance accordingly
providing the unit is not burnt and is returned in an Anti-static bag.
These new defective allowances will only apply to the units that were sold at the new
selling prices.
All other units previously supplied against the old selling prices before these changes and
providing they are not burnt or modified in any way and are returned in an Anti-static bag
will receive a credit of £70.
As per our terms and conditions for defective returns it is necessary to supply us the
original KH indent that these were supplied against in order to issue the appropriate credit.
If this information cannot be supplied then we may still offer a credit of £70 but please
check with either Sandra Leonard or myself before you return any assemblies.
To help us to help you concerning these assemblies please chase back any assembly that
you have supplied to your customers that they have not yet returned.
