(i) Explain soft soldering process with the help of a diagram.
(ii) Why is a flux required in soldering? State the Criteria for selection of flux.
(iii) Why is there a need to clean the metal pieces before soldering. Explain with any two examples.

being 0.5mm & hole dia being 4mm. also explain with the help of the diagram.
(ii) State the types of riveted joints. Explain the following aspects / terms when planning riveting.
(aa) Size of rivets
(ab) Selection of rivet size
(ac) Lapping allowance
(ad) Pitch allowance
(ae) Length of shank
(af) Rivet hole size & clearance

(b) (i) Find the allowance of “P” if the thickness of sheet metal is 0.4mm and length of “W” is 20mm given
below diagram?

(ii) Explain briefly the about the Parallel Line & Radial Line pattern development methods. State the
appropriate the pattern development method for development of a frustum of a cone and explain with the
help of a drawing.

Question 1. Practical Tasks. (2 Hrs)

(a) Create a wired straight edge for stiffening 0.5mm thick sheet metal by hand process. In doing so, calculate
the wiring allowance & total length required. (30Min)
(b) Make a dust pan (handle riveted dust pan) using a sheet of 0.6mm thickness, by hand process. (30min)
(c) Create a riveted lap joint. In doing so, mark the spacing for rivet holes to make a single riveted lap joint. Drill
on sheet metal by power operated portable drilling machine. Then using a snap head rivet create a riveted lap joint.

(d) Create a soldered sunk lap joint using the given material. Refer to the drawing given below. (30 Min)
