New System
A new system is shipped with the Controller software installed, including software for special
features, such as ConCAD and vision capability. If any features require licensing, the licensing
software is installed, and the features are licensed. The system needs only to be integrated into
the customer’s domain.
This provides a reasonable default, to conform to site-specific standards. Refer to the Data
Security Standards and Implementation Guide for information about setting up a domain user.
3. Insert the CIS Controller Software Installation DVD or open the download.
6. If your system does not already have the software required for licensing, you are prompted to
select the components you want to install. For an upgrade, it is not required that you install
the licensing software (second two options) unless you are adding features that require
licensing. Components can be installed separately as necessary. Following is a description of
the components.
7. If you have a DX Series or MXD card delivery system, select the appropriate model, and the
model of the MXi Envelope Insertion System, if you have it.
8. When the Controller software installation is complete, the License System software installs
automatically if you selected it.
9. If you are installing from a DVD, remove the DVD from the drive.
13. Test the system (refer to “Verify the Installation” on page 10).
Leave power to the modules off during the patch installation. Power to the modules is
controlled by the red switch on the Controller module. If the modules are powered on
during the installation, you must power them off and on again after restarting the
Controller computer at the end of the installation process.
5. Open the Controller Diagnostics and select the Controller (on the left panel).
8. When the flash update is complete, turn the red switch off and restart the Controller
computer.
9. In the Controller software, click the Production tab to monitor the bootup process. When the
initialization reaches 11%, turn the red module power switch on the Controller module to
ON.
10. Test the system (refer to “Verify the Installation” on page 10).
The Controller Service manual has the procedure for replacing the Controller.
The computer name and domain information can be changed after the
Controller software has been installed and configured to work with the default
settings.
8. When prompted Will this computer connect to the Internet directly or through a network?,
click Yes.
9. When prompted Ready to activate?, click Yes and follow activation directions.
10. If Windows finds new hardware, follow the prompts to install the driver automatically.
11. From the View Network Connections utility, observe which network connections are
enabled.
14. Set the Internal Network TCP/IP Address to 172.27.0.254, subnet mask 255.255.0.0.
18. Make sure that the red module power switch is off before you restart the Windows operating
system.
19. If SCS is still installed on the Controller computer, refer to “Run the Computer Rename Script”

Password: datacard
or
Password: datacard
5. Load and run sample data located in C:\Product Name\data. Use the job setup Sample
Financial (for card issuance systems) or TestPassport (for the passport system).
If all modules in the sample job are not in the system, the job must be edited.
6. Load and run other sample jobs that are supplied with the installation.
Before you begin a backup, make sure that the system is as clean as possible. Purge any event
logs or trace files to lower the size of the image and decrease the time needed to back up and
restore. If there is data that is not needed by you or the customer, clear it out as described below.
For security reasons, do not make a backup of the system with customer data
loaded, unless requested to do so by the customer.
If you want to clear out only production data, use the Clear Production Data option
in the Controller Diagnostics.
Use the following procedure to clear out production, trace, and event data before a backup:
1. Log on as a user with database administration rights (the Maxsys service user is a good
choice).
2. Open C:\PostgreSQL\9.3\utilities\RecreateDB.cmd.
If you are using a large external USB drive (500 GB), do not plug in the drive yet.
1. Start the system with the Acronis True Image OEM Edition DVD, and click Acronis True Image.
4. For partitions, click in the box for Disk 1 to select all partitions on that disk, and then click
Next.
5. To create a name and location for the archive file, follow the steps below:
a. Browse to the USB destination drive. Highlight the drive to place the cursor in the File
Name box. The drive letter displays in the box.
b. Enter a name for the file. It is recommended that you use the machine serial number,
such as <Mx8100188.tib>. If you are backing up a system with multiple drives, include
that in the file name. If there are multiple drives in the system, use a name that identifies
what drive the image is for, such as <Mx8100C.tib> for the C: drive and <Mx8100188_
D.tib> for the D: drive.
c. Click OK.
d. Click Next.
6. At the Summary screen, verify that everything is correct and then click Proceed.
7. If the system has more than one drive, back up the next drive.
9. When the system restoration is complete, remove the Acronis boot disc from the drive, close
the Acronis software, and unplug the USB external drive.
If the backup image was from a clean system, the restore should take 15 to 20 minutes. If the
image contains data, it could take several hours.
If you are using a large external USB drive (500 GB), do not plug in the drive yet.
1. Restart the system with the Acronis True Image OEM Edition DVD, and click Acronis True
Image.
2. If you are using a large external USB drive, plug it in now.
4. Browse to the drive where your files reside and select the image file for the machine and
hard drive that you are restoring. Click Next.
Make sure that you select the correct image file for this system. Do not use a
backup file from another system. System licenses and production counts would
be affected.
5. For recovery method, select Recover whole disks or partitions, and then click to select
Change size of disk or partition. Then, click Next.
6. For partition or disk restore, select Disk 1 to include both the NTFS (Drive C) and the MBR and
Track 0 information. Click Next.
7. For the restored hard drive location, select the drive that you want to restore to, and click
Next.
8. If the confirmation dialog box displays, click OK (to delete existing information or partitions).
9. On the restoration method dialog box, click Copy partitions without changes.
10. Confirm that the information is correct, and then click Proceed.
11. Optionally, select Restart, or Shut down the computer after operation.
12. When the system restoration is complete, remove the Acronis boot disc from the drive, close
the Acronis software, and unplug the USB external drive.
Windows security credentials are not recovered. Refer to the Data Security Standards
and Implementation Guide for information about adding a domain user.

The part number for the Windows 7 Ultimate OS Security Patch Management DVD for Maxsys
and MX Series is 508161-001.
Back up the system before you apply any Windows updates. Refer to “Back Up and
Restore the System”.
Network Security
Entrust Datacard recommends the following network security:
Exclude the local network that communicates with the modules from any firewall application
(including Windows).
1. Locate the db2_rename.cmd script. The file is in the C:/<Product Name>/bin or it can be
downloaded from www.partnerpage.com.
3. To run the script, open a Windows command window and enter db2_rename
<NewSystemName>.
The process described in this document does not migrate any data from DB2 to SQL
Server. For most Syntera CS software (Hosted Smart Card, Data Access, Job Enable or
Open Perso) users, there is no critical data in the database, and this process is suitable.
However, if you are a user of Datacard® Affina® MULTOS™ Issuance Software, then the
database likely contains information that is important to retain. Contact Datacard for a
consultation if you are an Affina MULTOS issuance software user, if you have other critical
data you need to retain, or if you have questions/concerns about this.
Follow the steps below to reconfigure Syntera CS software to use SQL Server.
The SQL Server Express database can be no larger than 10 GB. High-volume installations
or installations that must store a large amount of data for each record require SQL Server.
This includes, for example, Affina MULTOS issuance software users.
If you have Datacard® Affina® Profiles and Scripting software installed on the Controller
computer, you may already have SQL Server installed. In that case, you need only confirm
that mixed mode authentication is enabled.
To install the database, follow the steps described in the “Installing the Database” section of the
Datacard Syntera Customization Suite Foundation Software Installation and Configuration Guide
(Part No. 539768-001).
2. Select Start > Programs > Datacard > Syntera Customization Suite > Configuration to open
Syntera CS Configuration.
A-2
3. Log on to Configuration.
4. Under Server Status select Start/Stop Services and then select Stop Services.
3. Select the System DSN tab and locate the ObjectServer20_SQL entry.
4. Select Remove to delete the ObjectServer20_SQL DSN, or select Configure and rename it.
1. Select Start > Programs > Datacard > Syntera Customization Suite > Configuration to access
Syntera CS Configuration.
2. Log on to Configuration.
4. Follow the steps described in the “Create a Database” section of the Datacard Syntera
Customization Suite Foundation Software Installation and Configuration Guide (Part No.
539768-001).
5. Under Server Status select Start/Stop Services and then select Start Services.
