CHAPTER 3

ELECTRICAL PLAN

ELECTRICAL PLAN - is a type of technical drawing

that delivers visual representation and describes
circuits and electrical systems. It consists of electrical
symbols and lines that showcase the engineer's
electrical design to its clients. In short, an electrical
plan describes the position of all the electrical
apparatus.

An electrical drawing may include all of these essential

details described below:

• Interconnection of electrical wires and other

parts of the system
• Connection of different components and
fixtures to the system
• Power lines with details such as size, voltage,
rating, and capacity
• Power transformers and also their winding
connections
• The main switches, tiebreaker, and fused
switches
• Other essential equipment such as solar panels,
batteries, generators, air conditioning, and so on.

ELECTRICAL PLAN COMPONENTS:

GENRAL NOTES - written on the plans or submitted on

separate standard size sheets shall show: Nature of
electrical service, including number of phases, number of
wires, voltage and frequency; Type of wiring; Service
entrance.

LIGHTING LAYOUT PLAN - This electrical floor plan

sample shows the lighting and switch layout.
"In building wiring, a light switch is a switch, most
commonly used to operate electric lights, permanently
connected equipment, or electrical outlets. Portable lamps
such as table lamps will have a light switch mounted on
the socket, base, or in-line with the cord. Manually
operated on/ off switches may be substituted by remote
control switches, or light dimmers that allow controlling
the brightness of lamps as well as turning them on or off.
Light switches are also found in flashlights and
automobiles and other vehicles."

POWER LAYOUT PLAN - his electrical floor plan sample shows the Power socket outlet layout.
"The term plug is in general and technical use in all forms of English, common alternatives being power
plug, electric plug, and (in the UK) plug top. The normal technical term (in both British and International
English) for an AC power socket is socket-outlet, but in non-technical common use a number of other

terms are used. In British English the general term is socket, but there are numerous common alternatives,
including power point, plug socket, wall socket, and wall plug. In American English receptacle and outlet
are common, sometimes with qualifiers such as wall outlet, electrical outlet and electrical receptacle, all
of these sometimes to be found in the same document. A socket may be surrounded by a decorati ve and/
or protective cover called a wall plate, face plate, outlet cover, socket cover, or wall cover. In some designs
this is an integral piece with the socket itself, bought and installed as a single unit."

LOAD SCHEDULE - Is an estimated electric power consumption list that is sub-summarized by a circuit,
sub-facility (sub-station), and whole plant (main-substation). An electric power consumption is measured
in W (watt) or kW, and kVA kVAR).

SINGLE LINE DIAGRAM - is among the drawings required to be shown in the electric plans of proposed
buildings to be constructed. This diagram traces the route of the wirings - starting from the service entrance
cap to the watt-hour Meter - then to the Lighting and power panelboard (Lpp) which houses the Main
Circuit Breaker. The electric power getting into the Lpp is then farmed out to the different branch circuits
which provide the energy for lighting fixtures, appliances, electrical tools, etc., for the building. The
specifications for wires, ampere ratings of the Main and Branch Circuit Breakers which control the power
supplied to each branch circuit are also indicated on the Single Line Diagram.
