Inspection Periods 3M™ DBI-SALA® Lad-Saf™ Vertical Fall-Arrest


Cable System and Type 1 Device
Inspections of the DBI-SALA® Lad-Saf™ Vertical Fall-Arrest Cable System and DBI-SALA® Lad-Saf™
Cable Sleeve (Type 1 Device) are an important part of an effective safety program. The frequency of the
inspections as well as who should perform these activities are critical issues.

To ensure the ongoing safe use of these products, inspections shall be completed at the below intervals
as recommended by 3M™ Fall Protection as the manufacturer of the DBI-SALA® Lad-Saf™ system and
aligned with the requirements of Australian and New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1891.4 specifically
relating to Vertical Lifelines dependent on the type of Lad-Saf™ system installed.

Lad-Saf™ System Type One – Current System

1. Inspection by the user1 before and after use as per the specific User Instruction Manual.
2. Inspection by a height safety equipment inspector2 not exceeding three (3) years (based on the
structure inspection criteria) as per the specific User Instruction Manual.
3. In harsh or unique environments more frequent inspections may be required.
Lad-Saf™ System Type Two – Previous System

1. Inspection by the user1 before and after use as per the specific User Instruction Manual.
2. Inspection by a height safety equipment inspector2 not exceeding twelve (12) months as per the
specific User Instruction Manual.
3. In harsh or unique environments more frequent inspections may be required.

Lad-Saf™ Sleeve – Type 1 Device


1. Inspection by the user1
before and after use as per the specific User Instruction Manual.
2. Inspection by a height safety equipment inspector2 every 6 months as per the specific User
Instruction Manual.
3. In harsh or unique environments more frequent inspections may be required.

1Height Safety Operator – a person who is able to perform harness based work at heights under the direct
supervision of a height safety supervisor. If the person is not competent to carry out this inspection it is to be
undertaken by another person who is competent.

2 Height Safety Equipment Inspector – a person who has completed the 3M™ Lad-Saf™ Installation Course, holds a
valid Installer’s Certificate, is competent in the skills needed to detect faults in height safety equipment and to determine
remedial action and to document the inspection.

Competent Person – A person who has, through a combination of training, qualification and experience, acquired
knowledge and skills enabling that person to correctly perform a specified task.
