Advertising on social media is an effective method to promote products. Do you agree?

Advertising (commonly abbreviated as advert or ad) is a kind of marketing that promotes a

product, brand, or service to a target audience to generate interest, engagement, and sales.
Advertisements appear in a variety of formats, ranging from text to interactive video, and have
developed to become an important aspect of the app store (Adjust 2020). According to
Deshpande (2020), social media advertising is a type of digital advertising that uses social media
sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest to offer sponsored adverts to
your target audience. Facebook is the most popular social media network among marketers
throughout the world as of January 2020. According to a global poll, 94 per cent of respondents
utilized Facebook to advertise their business, with another 76 per cent using Instagram (Statista
Research Department 2021). In 2019, social media marketing spending in the United States is
anticipated to reach 17 billion dollars, up over 10 billion dollars from 2014 (Statista Research
Department 2021). Davis (2020) stated that, with 3.5 billion social media users globally, there
are 3.5 billion reasons to develop a social media marketing plan. It is no surprise that 73 per cent
of marketers have had success using social media in their marketing campaigns. Although
advertising on social media allows negative feedback which may demote products, it is
undeniable that advertising on social media is an effective method to promote products because
advertising on social media promotes customer engagement, reduced marketing costs, and will
bring more sales.

First of all, using social media to advertise the company’s product can help the company to
promote customer engagement. The reciprocal benefits of simple brand accessibility via Twitter,
Facebook, YouTube, and other social media platforms provide for easy consumer contact and
engaging social engagement, allowing for brand growth and broad touch over numerous
channels. It saves a lot of time and money from the standpoint of an entrepreneur. Furthermore,
compared to traditional approaches, using social networking sites allows business to reach a far
larger set of customers (CommBox n.d.). According to Syntactics (2021), the primary purpose of
social media platforms is to facilitate communication and engagement. As a result, using social
media and advertising might inspire people to interact with business. CommBox (n.d.) stated that
customers will find this kind of communication particularly useful since it taps into their social
network and social time, allowing for rapid interaction with the customer care department
without the need to make several tedious phone calls.

Secondly, the business should use social media for advertisement because it lowers marketing
costs. Almost all social networking sites allow business to sign up and create a profile for free,
and any sponsored promotions the business want to invest in are quite inexpensive compared to
other marketing methods. The business may significantly increase the conversion rates and
eventually obtain a return on investment on the money that was initially invested by simply
investing a short quantity of time and money (Blue Fountain Media 2020). Facebook
advertisements are quite popular due to their high return on investment and low total cost.
Because users share a lot of personal, demographic, and behavioural information on their
accounts, Facebook allows advertisers to target a highly specific audience. According to SEO
(2017) Instagram has more than 400 million users. This social media platform is extremely
popular among the young and restless, who use it to share and personalize their images and
videos. This group necessitates a unique strategy that incorporates more language, fun, and bling.
Since Mark Zuckerberg bought Instagram in 2012, it has used the same ad infrastructure and
targeting data as Facebook. This means business may save money by running a single ad that
targets both Facebook and Instagram users.

Last but not least advertising on social media can also bring more sales for the business.
According to Toney (2018) despite the fact that 47% of social media users confess to buying
anything they saw on social media once a month, the crucial word here is acknowledged. With
over half of users saying they spend money on social media on a monthly basis, the market for
social media transactions is still large. With social media users spending $1.6 billion each year
on advertising, it's apparent that it's not just functioning, but also quite successful. With more
users signing up every day, the client base – and sales – will only continue to expand. According
to Statista (n.d.), the second-largest market under Digital Advertising is Social Media
Advertising. The global revenue of $89.5 billion in 2019 is anticipated to rise to US$138.4
billion by 2025.
Although using social media for the company might be advantageous, it can also allow for
unfavourable feedback, which can lead to product demotion. Owen (2019) claimed that with the
internet more accessible than ever before, there are always those who seek to harm one's
reputation. If the company is new or just getting started, business are more likely to be targeted.
Anyone may simply write nasty comments about the business because it is so easy to react or
participate. According to Cruz (2019) 86 per cent of individuals are hesitant to buy from a
company that has received unfavourable online comments. Although it is allowed for negative
feedback which leads to product demoted, we cannot ignore the fact that social media is the best
way to advertise the product in this digital world.

In conclusion, social media advertising is an effective method to advertise products since it

lowers marketing costs for their business. In addition, it also helps to increases consumer
involvement with the business organization. Most importantly, using social media for business
can help to increase sales of the company. For these reasons, it is proven that social media
websites have become an important platform for business organizations. Business owners should
take the advantages of using social media for business in order to improve the performance of the
business and at the same allow them to compete with one another in the digitalize business
environment.
